I'm a little prejudiced when it comes to this show for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is that my Dad was a Captain in Newark at the same time this show came on, and aside from the mustache, the two were incredibly similar in the way they ran their commands. 

The other reason is obvious. In '74, when the show premiered, I had just joined the NPD. An interesting aside? I grew up with Ron Carey (Levitt)  - he came from my neighborhood. He was that same age as my brother Bob - funny guy.

Anyway, I could watch an episode every day of this and never get tired of it. It's available on YouTube if you have it. Tune in - you'll thank me for this...

According to this extraordinary study, El Niño is now the strongest it has been in 1,000 years, according to new research from the University of Michigan, which reconstructed ocean surface temperatures over the last millennium by looking at fossilized corals in the Galápagos Islands  - a tried and true way of forecasting weather patterns if ever there was one (he said tongue-in-cheekly).

The study, published in the journal Science, found a large recent increase in the variability of sea surface temperature in the eastern equatorial Pacific compared to previous existing paleorecords - scientific archives of past environmental and climatic conditions preserved in natural materials like ice cores, tree rings, and marine sediments - another tried and true way of forecasting weather patterns if ever there was one (he said tongue-in-cheekly, again).. That increase also parallels rising global temperature and results from stronger El Niño events.

“We’ve been seeing some very strong El Niño events in the late 20th and early 21st century, and what we didn’t know was how unusual those are,” said lead study author Julie Cole, environmental scientist at the University of Michigan.“We found that, on average, El Niño events have been stronger in the past 40 years than at any time in the past millennium, with higher temperatures that lead to more powerful effects on weather,” Cole wrote.

Is that real science or some shit this guy made up to make himself sound important? And if he's wrong, what did we gain from his 'studies'? We learn what we already know - no news is good news. Color me skeptical again. Juss' sayin'...

This 'street takeover' shit is too ghetto - somebody's finally cracking down...

LA cops Cops sprung a massive sting on alleged street-racing hooligans in South Los Angeles early Saturday — reportedly detaining hundreds and preparing to haul away scores of vehicles. The Los Angeles Police Department told The California Post that officers issued a tactical alert at 3:21 a.m. and were still working the scene hours later, as of 9 a.m.

No details were immediately available on arrests or citations from the LAPD. Video from the scene showed dozens of officers surrounding a massive crowd as people wandered between cars trapped at the intersection of South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard. Tow trucks stood by, ready to pounce.

At least 300 racers and spectators were being detained, while roughly 100 vehicles were slated to be seized and towed. Some attendees were also reportedly cited for taking part in the illegal gathering. And, yes - it was the usual suspects, in case you were wondering...

Almost every House Democrat this past Tuesday voted against a congressional resolution disavowing socialism and calling for the enactment of President Trump’s election security bill. The non-binding resolution, introduced by Rep. Jeff Crank (R-Colo.), asked lawmakers to condemn and denounce “socialism in all its forms,” including the increasingly influential Democratic Socialists of America movement, and oppose the implementation of socialist policies in the US. 

The fact that they voted against it tells you two things, both of which you should know. First and foremost, they do not want any level of security added to voting at any level. They lose power when they can't rig elections, even in the bluest of blue States. Also, and maybe more frightening, is that the majority of lelftie/Dimorats are scared to death of the uber-left fringe on AOC, Bernie, Talib and their ilk. That should scare the fuck out of you that they somehow unwittingly align themselves with those crackpots. And that ain't 'juss' sayin' - that's for real...

Was it really a flame thrower - or did he just light a fart...

A 61-year-old man was taken into custody after authorities said he pointed a homemade flamethrower at deputies serving an eviction order at an Oklahoma City apartment. Deputies with the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office went to the apartment to serve the eviction order and encountered a barricaded door, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies eventually broke through the door and entered the apartment, officials said. The sheriff’s office shared the video from the deputies’ body camera. There's a longer video of the episode here -

Staring down disaster nine years ago...

This was the projected path of Hurricane Irma the day before it struck my old home island of St. John,, It struck St. John on September 6, 2017, with sustained winds around 150 mph and much higher gusts.

Approximately 90% of the structures on the island were damaged or destroyed.

The incredible sustained winds stripped every leaf from the island's trees, leaving hillsides looking charred and barren. Critical buildings, including the U.S. Customs Office in Cruz Bay, were completely lost, and power and communications were entirely cut off. 

Of all of my friends still on island at that time - and I could  say dozens and dozens - no one was spared. Every one of my friends houses were not just damaged - they were completely destroyed. A tragedy of frightening proportions. It was followed immediately - 10 days after - by another devastating hurricane, Maria, that finished destroying everything that remained...
