Seaside Heights beach and boardwalk in New Jersey in the late 60's was a bustling, family-oriented post-war destination defined by classic mid-century Jersey Shore culture.
The beach experience was about packed sands - families and teenagers crowded the wide beaches with colorful blankets and beach umbrellas nearly down to the waterline. Portable 45 RPM records and AM radio hits from stations like WABC (blaring Motown, The Beatles, and surf rock) echoed across the sand. Kids rode the waves in the Atlantic while lifeguards kept watch from traditional wooden stands.
The wooden boardwalk smelled of hot tar, salty ocean air, fried foods, pizza, and saltwater taffy.Arcades and Games: Arcades buzzed with the sounds of Skee-Ball, pinball, and coin-operated games at landmark spots like Lucky Leo's. Casino Pier, the famous amusement pier, offered classic family rides, roller coasters, and game stands that drew large summer crowds.
Long before MTV's Jersey Short series came along and large-scale commercialization and modern pop-culture shifts, the town retained a nostalgic, small-town coastal charm with affordable motels and family bungalows....
