This is kinda a goof on a vintage roadside billboard variant featuring a little girl and a puppy pulling down her swimsuit bottom, playfully modified to read "Jersey Girl: Fastest tan under the sun!"
The original Coppertone artwork was painted by Joyce Ballantyne Brand in 1959 using her daughter as a model. Billboards like these - and regional variations - were a nostalgic fixture along highways leading to New Jersey beach towns "down the shore" during the 1960s. Remember the radio commercial jingle? 'Get the fastest tan that anyone can - tan don't burn get a Coppertone tan' The jingle was sung by singer Vic Dammone - a friend of my mother...
