A small milestone but an accomplishment of sorts...

...

Sometime yesterday afternoon we passed the 25 million mark. That's the number of times people have read this blog. Personally, I'm impressed as all giddup that I could accomplish anything like that. So - hooray for all of us...

Too much of a good thing?

Have an air fryer but don't know how to use it? Here ya go...

You can print out this page to keep for yourself. There are also easy to find and understand conversion tables from
"centigrade to fahrenheit" if you're reading recipes from Europe or Asia. Just google that phrase I have there in quotes and I'm sure you'll find a good one.
Don't have an air fryer but been thinking of getting one - maybe for yourself or someone else for Christmas? The link below will show you a wide selection of sizes, prices and options - a lot of them are on sale right now...

Ya really don't wanna get in a pissing contest with The Donald, do ya?

President Trump fired back Monday at Barack Obama’s weekend jab comparing Trump’s White House renovations to a branch of The Cheesecake Factory, claiming his predecessor did not take proper care of the historic residence. “For you to say it’s a Cheesecake Factory - that just shows why you were a lousy president,” Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews before departing on a campaign trip to Mississippi.
“We have to explain that to Obama because he doesn’t understand it because he’s not a smart guy,” the president continued. “He’s not smart at all because of the way he ran the country. Only a stupid person would run the country like that.”
Trump also claimed Obama allowed the White House to fall into disrepair during his eight years in office. “He doesn’t notice dirt and filth that hadn’t been cleaned, where the walls hadn’t been cleaned for years. He doesn’t notice areas that haven’t been painted,” Trump said.
“Guys like Obama don’t see it. You don’t see dirt. He doesn’t see filth. He doesn’t see broken ornaments on a building.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent responded to Obama’s comments Monday by visiting a Cheesecake Factory in Washington, DC for lunch. “This is the man who built the museum who looks like Darth Vader’s tomb,” the South Carolina native told reporters.

This is the lowest price in months.

Fool me once, shame on you...

I awlays thought that the third time was a charm. Guess he was wrong on that one, too. A loyal Texas Roadhouse customer is going viral after claiming he repeatedly got a cheaper cut of steak than what he ordered, leaving him wondering if he was being ripped off.
Kenneth Card took to TikTok in early October to warn other customers that he received a sirloin instead of a filet mignon three times at a Texas Roadhouse in Forsyth, Illinois. His post has since gotten over 30,000 views. Card said he has been going to the Texas Roadhouse location about once a week for over a year, and had even built a rapport with staff.
The first time it happened, he told staff he thought he had received the wrong steak and they gave him a filet. On his next visit, he said, he ate the steak without raising the issue. When he ordered filet mignon again on a third visit, Card said, he spoke with a manager. "I was like, 'Look, this is the third time that y'all tried to sell me a sirloin or whatever else kind of steak it is besides a filet,'" he recalled.

"I was like, 'Look, this is the third time that y'all tried to sell me a sirloin or whatever else kind of steak it is besides a filet,'" he recalled. "I just wanted to get the word out that, 'Hey, you're getting ripped off if you're ordering this, and they're selling you this,'" Card said.
The 8-ounce sirloin costs about $20 at the restaurant's Forsyth, Illinois, location, according to its website, while the filet mignon costs about $30. He said he was surprised by the attention and just wanted to make sure people are getting what they pay for.
Like I said, third time's a charm,  Ken...

Under $ 10.00 - very reasonable. I own two.

WTF does that light mean? What's wrong now?

I'm not ratting on my beloved Babs - just relating an
on-going love (or is it hate) affair she has with her dashboard lights. In just the past two months, two seperate - by my way of thinking not important - dashboard 'alert' lights have come on. One was a brake sensor that was determnined to be a bad sensor and not a brake problem, and the other a legit 'check enginge light' was determined to be a bad - not faulty - oxygen sensor on the engine. Combined spending on those two delightfll little thingamabobs? $ 1,300.00.
As a sidenote? My brake sensor light for the ABS has been on now for nine years in my truck. Juss' sayin'...

Going somewhere - on the Bullet Train to nowhere...

California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton is pitching a dramatic end to the state’s troubled high-speed rail project - imagining a future where the multibillion-dollar undertaking is transformed into a monument to government failure. The Republican candidate’s AI-generated campaign ad, titled around his proposal to “cancel High Speed Rail, turn it into the Government Failures National Monument,” offers a stark before-and-after vision of California depending on who occupies the governor’s office.
The spot contrasts a sun-drenched, prosperous California under Hilton with a frozen, dystopian version of the Golden State under Democratic gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra, blaming the latter’s hypothetical administration for soaring gas prices, struggling businesses and worsening conditions on Skid Row.
California - specifically Gavin Newsome in the past eight years - has pissed away billions of tax-payer dollars on this train project. The estimated total price tag has grown from the original 2008 voter-approved estimate of $33.5 billion to over $126 billion (with some internal estimates reaching higher).
The original plan to connect San Francisco and Los Angeles in under three hours has been scaled back to a 171-mile partial segment in the Central Valley between Merced and Bakersfield.
In July 2025, the Trump administration and U.S. Department of Transportation (led by Secretary Sean Duffy) terminated approximately $4 billion in unspent federal grants due to missed deadlines, failure to procure trainsets, and a Federal Railroad Administration finding of no viable path forward. California initially sued to block the cut, but later dropped the lawsuit.

A minimum wage and a living wage are two completely different things...

A Senate proposal aims to gradually increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $25 per hour over several years, reigniting debate about worker pay and the cost of living. Supporters say wages must better reflect modern expenses, while critics worry about impacts on businesses and employment. One question remains at the center of the discussion: would $25 an hour provide real financial stability across America?
The Living Wage For All Act, introduced by U.S. Senator Chris Murphy -
a Democrat,  of course - and Senate colleagues, aims to gradually raise the federal minimum wage to $25 per hour.

Key Details of the Proposal
• Starting Wage: The bill would immediately increase the federal minimum wage to $12 per hour in its first year.
• Two-Track Phase-In Timeline:
• Large Corporations (500 or more employees nationwide, or $1 billion or more in gross annual revenue): Must reach the $25-an-hour wage floor by 2031 (or 2032 depending on bill tracking specifics).
• Smaller Businesses: Given a longer phase-in window until 2038 (or 2039) to reach the $25 wage floor.
• Automatic Adjustments: After the initial phase-in, the minimum wage will be automatically adjusted annually to remain at two-thirds of the national median hourly wage.
• Subminimum Wages: The legislation phases out and eliminates subminimum wages for tipped workers, youth workers, and individuals with disabilities.
What these vote-buyers will never understand is -
A: Minimum wage is nothing more than a threshold. It's meant as a guideline for part-time under-skilled workers, and has nothing to do with 'earning a living'. The absolute majority of minimum wage jobs are not full-time positions.
B: Increasing minimum wages is detrimental to any business where profit margins are slim, and all of the increased costs have to be passed on to the consumer, so the cost of everything goes up for everyone, sqeazing buying power for everyone...

It's getting uglier out there in election land...

With Election Day just weeks away, political attack ads are filling television screens, social media feeds, text messages and street signs, and some voters say the negativity is causing them to tune out.
Mean-spirited election ads have intensified during the 2026 campaign season, driven by highly personal attacks, partisan messaging, and the emerging influence of artificial intelligence. While voters frequently express fatigue or distaste for mud-slinging, campaigns heavily rely on these tactics because negative ads are proven to trigger powerful emotions like fear and anger, which effectively drive voter turnout.
Campaigns are using ads to influence voters, but some voters said attack-style messages are not helping them make decisions. “I’ll be honest, I kind of like zone the ads out, like I try not to pay attention to them,” said early voter Casey Dannenfelser.
Political communication experts note specific strategic reasons why modern campaigns lean into high-conflict tactics. Negative advertisements leverage basic psychological responses. Fear and anger are highly memorable, stick in voters' minds longer than positive messaging, and put opponents on the defensive.
Angering a political base or independent voters is historically one of the most effective ways to ensure they actually show up to vote. Artificial intelligence has revolutionized negative advertising. Political groups have spent over $80 million on AI-generated ads to fabricate candidate voices, construct fake imagery, and spread synthetic statements, making it harder for voters to discern reality.

At least 14 broadcast stations in Florida were accused of criminal conduct and a dozen were then sued by the state’s Republican Party on Oct. 16, 2026, in a push to prevent further airing of a political advertisement produced by state Democrats.
Benjamin Gibson, an atorney for the state Republicans, sent a cease and desist letter that day to the managers for stations belonging to Cox Media, Fox, Graham Media, Hearst, Ion, New World, Nexstar, Scripps and Tegna.
He argued that, by televising an ad that referenced a grand jury finding about alleged misappropriation of state funds by the state’s Republican administration, the stations violated state laws protecting the confidentiality of testimony and findings, and they were additionally liable for the ad’s purported defamatory content.

There is a roadside attraction south of Orlando so old and so beloved that millions of people have walked straight into the open jaws of a giant concrete alligator just to get inside.
Gatorland opened in 1949, back when a Florida vacation meant two lane highways, orange juice stands and hand painted signs promising wonders around the next bend. Owner Owen Godwin built it along the old road south of Orlando and billed it as the Alligator Capital of the World, and that famous gaping gator mouth entrance has welcomed guests for generations.
While the giant theme parks rose up around it and changed Florida forever, Gatorland stayed true to its Old Florida roots. It survived lean years, a 2006 fire, and shifting tastes, and it is still family owned today, still showing off thousands of alligators and crocodiles along with its famous gator wrestling and the daredevil Gator Jumparoo show.
In a state that paved over so much of its past, there is something wonderful about a place that still feels like the Florida of a vintage postcard.

A runaway cow sparked a police chase through a New York town - and even escaped an attempt to lasso her as she quickly trotted down a roadway. Maggie, a 4-year-old Highland cow, escaped from Little Cabin’s Farm in Carmel on Tuesday and ran loose across the quiet Putnam County suburb over the weekend. Little Cabin’s Farm said that Maggie is now safe and reunited with her calf after her brief adventure in the wild.
