What kinda sadistic fuck would design something this crazy?

I have developed - over the last ten years or so - an incredible case of fear of heights tha manifests itself in, among other things, vertigo. It actuallly has been creeping up on me to the point where I most definitely can't look out an airplane window once we're off the ground. Seriously - I'm good up until the thired rung on a ladder, and then I'm fucked. There's no rational explanation for this, it just is what it is and I deal with it.
So, I see something like this thing and I start to lose it just thinking about driving on it. Does this make me a flat-earther of some kind? So be it. Read about this bridge to insanity here...

  1. Check out the Rainbow Bridge in East Texas. My father drove us over that bridge god knows how many times going to see our family in Louisiana. My mom refused to drive over it.

    1. I've had nightmares about that bridge since I was 5 years old. I thought it was something my dreams made up, then I saw it in an article in (of all places) the Daily Mail. I said "THAT'S THE BRIDGE!" and went and looked it up. It turns out my parents had driven over it on one of many cross-country trips, long before I-10 existed.

It's not even so much the height of it: it's that the lanes are narrow and the guardrails only come up to your eff'ing KNEE! You might as well be driving on a strip two feet wider than your car, with NO guardrails!

  2. most of the time, a fear of heights is more like the fear of falling and getting hurt. my Dad was fearless about heights.
he 'walked steel " in the building of the golden gate bridge. I still think he was nuts ! I had a problem ever since he hung me over the roof by a rope to caulk the damn windows on the second floor ! oh, yeah. Mom wasn't home that day for some reason. I always thought he wouldn't try that with Mom around. funny thing, I joined the airborne to try and get over the fear of heights. DIDN'T HAPPEN. there I found out that a lot of guys shut their eyes going out the door and only open them again AFTER the chute opened. still don't care for ladders myself. I do have some scaffolding if I need to reach or do something with the roof or whatever. BTW, falling off ladders tend to hurt a bit. more so as we get older.
over 65-70, we have no damn good reason to be on a damn ladder.

  3. It's related to inner ear issues that do get worse as you age or have issues with your inner ear (from allergies or illnesses or physical damage.)

My balance sucks and I've had really bad vertigo since my 20s. I hate tall buildings and bridges. And it gets worse the more tired I am.

  4. That bridge doesn't actually look like that, it's an exaggerated optical illusion created by using a long lens from a distance. You fell for the clickbait. Here, have a look for yourself,
