This guy took the idea of 'insider trading' to a level that would make Nancy Pelosi jealous. Master Sgt. Gannon Ken Van Dyke was directly involved in the “planning and execution” of Operation Absolute Resolve - the dangerous Jan. 3 special forces raid on Maduro’s compound in Caracas - and had access to “sensitive, nonpublic, classified information” about the operation, according to the Justice Department.
A week before the raid, Van Dyk, 38, placed more than $33,000 in wagers on Polymarket, a predictions market platform that allows users to bet on the outcome of future events, related to Maduro and US military action in Venezuela.
The soldier profited some $409,000 from the bets and took steps to conceal his identity and winnings, placing his ill-gotten proceeds into foreign cryptocurrency accounts.
Hey - ya can't blame the guy for trying, right? The article did not say how he got busted, but I have even money he friggin' blabbed to somebody about how smart he is - know what I mean?

Why is it ill-gotten for him but not Nancy? Justice is a joke in this country.
ReplyDeleteGood. Put that guy in jail and now go after ALL the White House employees that are making a killing in the stock market and oil futures every time Trump tweets.
ReplyDeleteMagically people buy shit loads of stock and oil futures 10 minutes before a tweet is sent.
This is not knowing the lottery numbers. This is not even like going to the casino. In the casino you bet against the house. This is stealing from someone else.
In prediction markets one person buys one side of the contract and an other person buys the other side of the contract. If we are both buying different sides of an outcome that none of us control then it is fair. If you control/know about the outcome of the contract beforehand then it is not a fair bet. You are stealing from the person on the other side of that contract. It is the same as fixing games. In the stock market it is called insider trading and it is highly illegal and people go to jail for doing it all the time.
I'm not defending the guy, nor attacking him. Dont care. However, if some politician with insider information did this they wouldn't blink an eye. Just sayin.
