Blue Oyster Cult probably could have written a song describing what's going on in Europe right now, but for one reason - nobody knows why they're doing what they're doing. The violence and destruction has spread all over Europe, and the powers that be appear to be helpless in stopping it. France has ordered curfews as it tries to contain rioters causing chaos across the country, with protesters blockading the Louvre and setting streets alight. Marseille had already banned public gatherings from midday to 8pm today as France’s PM ordered more “partial curfews”.

Riots have spread across Europe, with looters ransacking Milan this weekend and smashing up luxury shops in Paris. Streets were set ablaze this weekend from Paris to Tirana as protests spiralled out of control in France, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Albania.

As violence spread across the continent, a spokesperson for Number 10 slammed the riots as “unacceptable”, adding a message to anyone thinking of copycat protests here: “Our police have the resources to stop this action and keep the public safe.”

Belgium and Portugal also saw huge protests this weekend, and demonstrations in Albania have now been raging for a week. 

In Milan, violent clashes started on the sidelines of protests about the cost of living crisis. But the northern Italian city has now seen two days of rioting, with 200 detained, mainly young people.
