Making tough decisions at the Municipal level...

Y'all should know by now that I live in The Villages - the world's largest residential development, but there's a slight twist in my neighborhood. The area I live in was the very first development the original guy who started this did, and the whole neighborhood is in the Town of Lady Lake, Florida.
Everywhere else in The Villages is not in a town or city per se, but that's a story for another day. Anyway, Lady Lake officials have canceled this year's Christmas parade due to budget concerns, according to a post on the town's Facebook page. Town leaders said the decision was a tough choice, explaining that the parade requires significant manpower and other resources.
All Lady Lake Police officers are assigned to work the event, along with employees from Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and other town departments who assist with traffic control, road closures, setup, cleanup, event operations, and other logistical needs. For the safety of parade participants, spectators, and motorists, multiple roads must be closed before and during the event.
Although it's always sad to see any traditional forsaken or abandoned, the fact that the people running my town aren't frivolous with our tax dollars is something to appreciate.
Yeah, parades are good for kids and maybe a few adults, but at what cost in a small town - especially one like ours that doesn't have a traditional 'Main Street' or 'downtown area'. I say well played...

This being a cartoon from the Seattle Times, I'm assuming it's anti-Trump,
but think about it. Is it as TDS as the artist wanted it to be? I don't see it...

This is this morning's official track. Why do they let people name a storm with a name that has to be explained how to pronounce it? Just call it hurricane Fred, ferfucksakes. Anyway, those guys up around FloriBama are gonna get their asses kicked. The Pensacola Naval Air Station will probably be devoid of aircraft by this afternoon.

Not all muslims are imported. Some are home-grown...
Newark, NJ (my home town) - Holy fuck, Batman - they 'Allahu Akbar'ed it!
Before taking the field, members of the Malcolm X Shabazz High School - formerly South Side High - football team gather together for salah, the Islamic prayer, pausing to pray to Allah as part of their pregame tradition. The prayer takes place on the field, similar to how many schools across the U.S. hold Christian prayers before football games.
A social media post from the Facebook page Converts to Islam described the team’s tradition, stating, “Before taking the field, Newark’s Shabazz High School football team comes together for salah, the Islamic prayer, as part of their pregame tradition.” “The players pause before each game to pray and give praise to Allah, creating a moment of faith, unity and reflection before competing on the field,” the post continued.
According to the post, “The tradition highlights the important role faith and community can play in the lives of student-athletes at Shabazz High School. Alhamdulillah, it is beautiful to see young Muslim brothers - and sisters - embracing Islam openly and proudly, not only in private but also as part of their everyday lives,” the post added.

I went on one cruise about 20 years ago, and only because my brother-in-law was paying for the whole thing, including first-class airfare and hotels in Vancouver, Canada. It was a Norwegian Line ship that went up to Glaciar Bay, Alaska and back with stops in a coupla hony-tonk towns along the way.
The food was okay - not great, the drinks were free because Dougie was picking up the tab, and the boat was so-so, not great but nice enough. Nowadays ya can't smoke on  theboats, the drinks are insanely priced,, and yer trapped on a boat with like 5,000 other goofballs. Yeah - no thanks. Especially Carnival Cruises. That's like a floating friggin' downtown Detroit or Compton, if ya get my drift.
