it's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine. Sorta...

"The world is ending on November 13, 2026" - at least this is what a a physicist believed back in the 1960s. Heinz von Foerster and his students Patricia M. Mora and Lawrence W. Amiot in article titled "Doomsday: Friday, 13 November, A.D. 2026" gave the date of the end of the world back in 1960.
It was even published in the journal Science. Predicting that the human population would approach infinity by this date, resulting in self-annihilation, the authors argued for a collaborative effort to address population growth as the world's birth rates began to decline.
Is it real science? Of course not. Just like the climate crazies, they just made shit up to fill a manuscript.  On the other hand,  scientists from NASA and Toho University in Japan estimate that the sun will grow 10% brighter in about one billion years from now, eventually heating Earth enough to evaporate the oceans and end surface life. See, now there's something to look forward to...

Household finances are under pressure as families prepare for Halloween, just weeks before the midterm elections. Parents reviewing stacks of bills and bank statements are considering whether children can create their own costumes rather than buying new ones. The decision reflects broader economic strain on middle-income households facing higher costs for everyday items.
The 2026 midterms have already seen heavy spending by campaigns and outside groups, yet many voters report that personal budgets remain squeezed by inflation and stagnant wages. This disconnect between political spending and family realities creates a pointed contrast, with everyday items like paper bags and Amazon boxes becoming valuable when store-bought costumes are out of reach.

In Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson not only resisted ICE efforts to clean up his crime-ridden city, but explained keeping Chicagoans safe is just not his job.

"Because that's their job," Johnson said. "That is their job. The federal government has a responsibility to make sure that individuals who are undocumented, who have been charged with and convicted of a crime, it is the federal government's responsibility to do their part and uphold the law."

What is that saying about 'don't count your chickens'? It's still early.
The season has a long way to go - it runs through the end of November...

The Matterhorn on the border of Switzerland and Italy appeared almost completely bare of snow and ice at the end of September 2026 due to prolonged early-autumn heatwaves and record-breaking high temperatures in the Alps.
The freezing level around the peak rose to about 16,400 feet (5,000 meters) during the late-September heatwave. Switzerland experienced its hottest and driest summer since records began in 1864.
The mountain - famously featured on Toblerone chocolate packaging - lost its typical ice and snow cover much later into the year than normal.

This blog is supported by the meager commissions I get when you buy stuff
on Amazon going through a link you see here. It doesn't matter if you buy what
is promoted, or something else - it's all still credited to the blog.
Long and short of it? If you're ever going to Amazon, come to the blog first
and use one of my links. Your help is greatly appreciated.

'They' are starting to scrutinize the blog again. Yesterday evening I had a second HilllBetty posting to go up, and they wouldn't allow  it because of what must be fairly draconian 'community standards'. That's the second time this month I've gotten that notification.
Truth is, there was nothing at all risque about the photo. I honestly don't understand the rationales involved here. They got me walking on eggshells not knowing what's 'offensive' and what isn't.

Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Halethorpe, MD will close to the public on Nov. 1, 2026, and wind down operations by the end of the year. The brewery was in Baltimore for around eight years.
I had great hopes for this place to start brewing Rockshore Lager (Guiness' premium blonde beer) here so it would be available in the States. This is bad news in a lot of ways...

That's subtle. We like subtle, don't we?

  1. The entire POINT is to keep you on eggshells. It's paragraph number one in "How To Control A Population". Don't sweat it. Post a different one. If it gets impossible to do what you want to do, walk away from the blog. They cannot be fought, and they own the site.

I feel your pain. I have the same problems with YouTube for my music. Eventually I decided YT wasn't worth the hassle, and am now hosting exclusively on Rumble.

  2. Remember back when the Mayan calendar ran out? It is the same nutcases screaming the world is ending.

  3. Perhaps if the nuns in my Catholic school enjoyed life a bit more (and looked like they do instead of looking like they were waitstaff at the Last Supper), I might have paid better attention. I'd still love to know how a four and a half foot tall, 200 year old nun can conceal a 36 in yardstick in an 18 in long sleeve yet wield it with such speed & accuracy....

  4. That mountain? It’s Il Monte Cervino, which is the Matterhorn from the Italian side. You know, the hot, sunny SOUTH side of the mountain. Which leaves me wondering, how much snow remains on the NORTH side of the mountain? Beware the sleight of hand of the climate con artists!

  5. Why does the "Socialism" guy (who would be a Leftist), have two right hands?

  6. It's easy to host your own blog now and won't cost much. If you have a web package or a PC that is on 24/7 then you can host it for free. Only cost will be the domain name which you will have to purchase.

They own it, they control it and they dictate what you do with it. They are a bunch of leftie retards, It makes me laugh people whining about this thing regularly, as many do, and just not willing to fix it. I had a blogger site many moons ago and I moved it the first time they sent me letters demanding changes. Everyone whines about Apple, but still buys their stuff and fund them.

    1. The one problem with that approach (and it's not trivial) is dealing with attackers. If you have controversial subjects that are even vaguely "right wing" (truth counts as right wing), you WILL be hacked, spammed, twisted, doxxed, and left hung out to dry. Fighting these things is not a simple subject and you will rapidly have to become an experienced website administrator -- or go under. There is plenty of helpful information available, but it takes time. And make darn sure that computer isn't connected to the rest of your home network (two internet connections are best).

If you go that route, be prepared. Jus' sayin'.

I am by no means a cheapskate, but I agree with most of these...

Fast food, sure. Every once in a while I'll indulge on a six dollar McDonalds lunch deal - double cheeseburger, fries, chicken nuggets...
