An Iranian appeals court recently upheld a sentence of 74 lashes, a two-year travel ban, and a two-year ban on artistic activities against her and members of her production team.
What is the significance of 74 lashes versus any other number? Well, I guess a bunch of bearded towel heads got together in a room and that was as high as all of them could count on their fungers and toes.
A sentence of 74 lashes in Iran is a standard corporal punishment under the country's Islamic penal code (derived from an interpretation of Sharia) designated for offenses against public morality, such as violating mandatory hijab laws, public indecency, or "publishing falsehoods".
