Weed consumption is set to get more grassroots with one state’s newest law letting growers set up shop at farmer’s markets. Boutique weed growers and sellers can now apply for Cannabis Event Showcase permits, giving them retail privileges without a brick and mortar storefront.
New York Senate Bill S10113 and its companion Assembly Bill 11217 were signed into effect by Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul on Thursday, upon which it took immediate effect. Under it, licensed, local cannabis vendors will be able to sell any cannabis product that’s legal in the state at outdoor farmer’s markets and approved community events.
The legislation’s goal in issuing these permits is to give smaller businesses and growers the opportunity to compete with corporations that have plenty of advertising money to go around. It also aims to make the selling process easier for these growers by letting them act as their own official growers and processors for the event, or perform these duties for other businesses.
