The IPO of Musk's companies was the big buzz this past week because, among other things, it made the richest man in the world richer still. He shruggged it off. Money is nothing but a means to him, and that's the best attitude to have about it. Money determines how well you live, but it doesn't necessarily define you - or him. He lives in a modest modular house near his Spacex headquarters. He doesn't own a big yacht or a fleet of fancy cars. The guy has 14 kids, ferfucksake - that's obviously where he gets his kicks.
At the end of the day, someone who is worth a trillion dollars doesn't effect you in any way, so don't get jacked up about it. You probably can't even grasp how much money that actually is. Juss' sayin'...
It's probably bullshit, but still...

This is the house I spent just about every summer of my life in until I was 18. My father bought it in 1962 for the grand sum of $ 14,000.00., and he hung on to it until 1985 when he sold it for 75k, walking away with a nice little profit. He'd probably be spinning in his grave if he ever saw this. That is just a ridiculous fuckin' number.

Everybody who's never been to this part of Florida where I am sorta has no idea what it's like around here. Florida isn't all condos on the beach and Disney. It's about as diverse as any other State - maybe even more so.
Five minutes from my house and you're in citrus, cattle and horse country - the real boonies. Granted, I live in a humongous development, but my back fence is the absolute outside of the whole shebang. Other side of the fence is an abandoned golf course, and beyond that, nothing but nothing. Meanwhile, withing three miles of my house there's five supermarkets, three big box stores and more friggin' banks, restaurants, doctors and dentists than you can imagine. It's a truly unique place - I love it here.

Imagine if you will having grown up like this, and think about today's crybaby, popsicle-sucking snowflakes who need 'safe spaces' because people say something they don't like.

what very few people understand is the dollar is just about worthless when compared to money back in the 1950's and 1970's/ back when a new care was about 3500 bucks new off the lot. Nixon took us off the gold standard and ever since the dollar has lost value. saving money in the bank is foolish anymore. stuff that holds value is the only way to go.
ReplyDeletenot a huge fan of gold or silver coins but I have a few I bought when silver was UNDER 20 bucks. had a few gold coins I bought om west Berlin that was a nice down payment on my first house . yup. 275 each at the time and worth almost 700 when I sold them. and we what 38 or 39 TRILLON IN DEBIT NOW ? yeah, save those dollars. not that they going to be worth much in the long run.
If the bank doesn't like how you're managing YOUR money the compliance officer will notify the feds and they will drain your account. All in the name of defunding drug dealers. Get your money out of the bank, put it in treasuries or gold or guns.
DeleteA good number of Musk's children will have nothing to do with him.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 70's and 80's I used to deliver hay to a dairy farm which is now part of the Villages.
trillion equals $1000 billion, or $1000000000000. If you spent $1 million every day, it would take nearly 2740 years to spend $1 trillion.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how they are okay with 40 trillion in debt but get upset when someone becomes a trillionaire
DeleteWhy in the hell do they say "alleged" when the act is right there on video for everyone to see? Damn lawyers.
ReplyDeleteTakeout pizza sucks just about everywhere - except in Jersey !
ReplyDeleteI miss the old Capitol Theater - for a sweet, brief period, Passaic , NJ was arguably the number one live music center in the US - if not the world !
Having money may not buy happiness but not having it almost guarantees misery. Ask the homeless, the jobless and the elderly with soaring medical bills.
ReplyDeleteAround 1960 my folks paid 12k for their house that sold for 300k in 2006 as is.
ReplyDeleteWalmart has 15 item self-check lines. So, the democrats are lying and
ReplyDeletecheating, again.
Isn't it obvious that the whole meme is a joke? Former Presidents wouldn't be allowed to stand in line in Wal-Mart if they wanted to. If Trump wants to go to Wal-Mart they'd close the Wal-Mart to regular business and let only a few thoroughly screened shoppers inside the store.
DeleteSometimes I forget that people who've not lived in Washington don't realize that when the POTUS wants to use a street, the police clear the street of regular traffic and instruct people where to stand and cheer.
That Sherman tank was American made but that's Monty's lads driving it.
ReplyDeleteThe crew uniforms and red-white-red marking on the front make it a Lend-lease Sherman in Brit/Commonwealth/Polish service. No clear unit marking, the "30" is a bridge limit.
ReplyDeleteToo much money. Read the story about the dude from Scranton that got tossed out of the Ritz in NYC because "harassing the players". Wemby or whatever complained. Him, his two kids, his buddy and his kid. 750k to go to the game. I'm not sure if there were others in the group. 20k for the suite at the Ritz. And the one kid wants to burn his $3500 autographed Wemby jersey. THAT'S too much money.
ReplyDeleteThe house I grew up in, in Livermore, CA, which my parents bought for $33k in 1972, was around $1.25m last I looked at Zillow. My mom still lives there.
