Hawksnest Beach is a stunning, easily accessible stretch of sand located within the Virgin Islands National Park on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. Known as the first major beach heading east from Cruz Bay, it offers a quieter, free alternative to more crowded destinations like Trunk Bay. Just a 5-minute drive (about 2 miles) from the Cruz Bay ferry dock along North Shore Road, it has excellent amenities including changing rooms, vault toilets, accessible paths, picnic tables, and charcoal grills.
Highly popular with locals and visitors seeking a relaxed beach day without cruise ship crowds. A shallow reef sits just a few yards offshore, home to elkhorn corals and small, colorful fish. While there is an adjacent parking lot, it is relatively small and frequently fills up by mid-morning.
The back of the beach is beautifully lined with sea grape trees, providing great natural shade for escaping the Caribbean sun. The sand is soft, but the beach itself can be somewhat narrow and sloped. It can also get a bit wavy depending on the wind and tide...
