In this 1960s photo, Car 20, having departed Davenport Avenue station, continues inbound on the Newark City Subway. That station was unique, being the only NCS station without transit connections - a purely neighborhood stop. Davenport Avenue, a couple blocks from a place I lived, is on the left. The bridge over the tracks deposited you on the outbound platform, with an entrance to Branch Brook Park, along which the subway ran for half its length. Imagine getting off there after work or school and walking across the park to your Forest Hills neighborhood.
