Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has proposed guarantees to prevent future invasions as conditions for ending the war with the U.S. and Israel. On the 11th, President Pezeshkian stated via X, “In discussions with leaders of Russia and Pakistan, I reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to regional peace,” adding, “The only way to end this war, instigated by the Zionist regime and the U.S., is for them to recognize Iran’s legitimate rights, pay reparations, and provide robust international assurances to prevent future invasions.”
Iran conveyed to mediators its demand for binding commitments from both the U.S. and Israel to prevent future airstrikes as a condition for a ceasefire. According to unnamed sources, Iran fears Israel might resume attacks after the war. President Trump has repeatedly stated, amid concerns over prolonged conflict, that “the war will end soon.” Iran, however, has pushed back, asserting, “It is up to us to decide the end of the war.”

DeleteJust because you're ignorant doesn't mean that everybody is ignorant. Anyone who has been paying attention to international arm sales knows why. Combine that knowledge with China promising to go after Taiwan in the next two years (they've openly stated their time frame for the last 3 or 4 years), and ultimately the timing has to be now.
Some of the pieces to the puzzle that you're missing. China just announced the sale (not delivery) of the mach 3 anti-ship missile to Iran. Once they have this missile, Iran can shut down the Strait of Hormuz and there would be very little that the United States (or anybody else) could do about it.
Puzzle piece two: There are two choke points for closing off all trade with China. China knows this. As things stood a year ago, if China went after Taiwan, the two choke points would be closed. China, which imports something like 80% of their energy, some ungodly amount of their food, and a large portion of their fertilizer will become a de-industrialized nation within a matter of a year or two. People will starve. The nation will fall.
China's plan, before Trump decided to take Iran off the gameboard, was to arm Iran with the mach 3 missiles. If we closed off trade with China, China would close the Strait of Hormuz and starve the world for oil. The Chinese thinking is that the blockade against China would be lifted in order to reopen the Straight of Hormuz.
This information is publicly available, you just have to look for it. Some of it has been known for a minimum of two or three years -- including China's intention to reclaim Taiwan by force.
Another point, 70% of Venezuela's oil went to China; 90% of Iran's. Trump's team has thought this through far greater than most Monday morning quarterbacks are capable of.

In this alternate universe, when China takes over Taiwan next year, how many of you bitching about Iran would be crucifying Trump for allowing China to take Taiwan. Perhaps the problem is less with Trump and more with you. The world is not a nice place. Jimmy Carter was a failure because he foolishly believed it was.
