Hold my beer - a NY Dem just said something that almost made sense...

It’s a real power play. Gov. Hochul wants AI and other computer data centers that devour huge amounts of energy to pay more for electricity in a move she says will prevent sticker shock on regular customers. “Massive data centers are driving up electricity demand faster than the grid can keep up, pushing costs onto working families and small businesses who can’t afford higher bills,” Hochul said in a statement to The NY Post.
“While New York 'continues to lead in attracting new technologies' (according to who, Kathy?), we must grow responsibly, ensuring affordability comes first and those profiting from data growth pay their fair share,” she said.

Ya see - that's where she lost me. That 'fair share' shit has become a mantra for the Dims. somehow, they equate 'fair share' with taking someone's money and 'sharing' it with people who didn't work for it. Sorry, Kathy, ya almost had me for a minute.

  1. NY is not going to have data centers with Dems charging them extra for power and high taxes.

  2. How about building a power plant?

  3. Data centers use as much energy as a small town. Taxpayers are footing the bill for the infrastructure. Why shouldn't they pay more? As a taxpayer I'm tired of big business getting rich while I get poorer. The only thing Hochul ever did right.

    1. 100% accurate. Data centers employ nobody, generate no economic impact in the communities and drive electricity costs up for everyone! Hochul is right on this one.
Data centers are NOT like other business. Other businesses employ people and generate economic activity around them for the communities. Data centers drain resources drive energy prices up and send all the $ to the billionaires that own them without leaving anything behind.

    2. It might depend on your locality whether the taxpayer or the utility company pays for infrastructure upgrades.

    3. I thought that was why businesses pay "Commercial Rates" for their power, which are usually way higher than "Residential Rates".

  4. 1. AI and other computer data centers will build their own power plants
    2. AI and other computer data centers will move out of NYS

  5. Back in the early '80s, I was GM of an oil jobber. United Way came by to solicit a donation. You either paid a "Full Share" or a "Fair Share". I declined and told him those terms were insulting.

  6. Yep. Bring in an industry, let then make the investments, get set up, and "Oh. There's a slight additional fee to operate here."

  7. Typically bulk buyers get a discount. Why should an AI facilty pay more per KwH than others?

  8. To the typical commie leftist the solution to ANY problem is "pay more taxes".

Why do they all look like this?
