I've heard from two different sets of friends who've been there - one couple lived there for ten years - that the weather is perfect, the people are really nice and the majority of them speak some english, The currency in Malta is the euro, and from everything they've told me and I've heard about, the cuisine there is a polyglot mix of French, Italian, North African and Spanish cuisines, with an emphasis on seafood, of course. As an aside, Thursday afternoon I heard a coupla nail guns banging away around the corner from me. I jump in the truck and go look and sure as fuck there's three Mexican dudes (That's a collective term) up on the roof in the middle of the afternoon on fuckin' Thanksgiving Day. I couldn't tell by driving by if the homeowner was there or not, but I will make it a point to tell whoever the fuck it is that that shit ain't appreciated.

I bought that Caprice on auction through Yellow Cab when I finally came ashore for good. Chick jumps in my right front seat and notices my radio is plugged into the lighter/ accessory plug. She said "This your car?" So I gave her the whole spiel, from Elwood Blues, the greatest cinema gearhead of all time, it's got cop tires, a cop suspension, a 350 cop plant,......etc, etc. Without missing a beat she shot back, "Fix the cigarette lighter!"

If you do not mind traveling a bit, you can get a 69 or 70 Mach I that has been professionally restored for less than $10K more than a new one. The antique Mach I's are some of the deals of the gen 1 mustangs that were at a trim level above the base GT.
ReplyDeleteI was a 'gearhead' in high school in the 70's. I couldn't afford any newish vehicles so I went the other route. I pulled a 427 out of a station wagon and dropped it in an old truck with a 4 speed. I also changed the rear to a 4:35. This was a 10+ year old farm truck. It was the ultimate sleeper as a high 12 sec quarter mile truck just before it ran out of steam.
The current project is a 74 Stingray that I have bumped the 195 Hp 350 up to 410 Hp. It takes a lot of concentration to keep it going strait down the road. I am thinking about de-tuning it about 70Hp and dropping the gearing down to 3:73 to see if that makes it more drivable.
The Boss & I went to Malta about 10 years ago and had a wonderful time there. But I should warn you that it can get mighty hot & humid there in the Summer! That and while there are a lot of Brits there but there are a mighty few Americans,
