They set their own salaries. The set their own term limits (none), they bow to their respective partisan gods in spite of everything that should be right, and faair, and aboce all, honest. And yet, here we are, in the greatest country this world has ever seen, a (semi-) true representative Republic. Thing is, who's representing who for what anymore...

Call your local Social Security office. Mine plays a recorded message telling their hours, but no one answers the phone. Had the pleasure of flying - an ATC slowdown in NY got me stuck overnight in Detroit. Meanwhile my son is working at the VA. He'll get paid when the clowns in DC restart the circus. The son-in-law, Army, still has to work.
ReplyDeleteSo nobody is working for no pay, some are NOT working but will be paid in the future, others are working and will be paid in the future.
In the 90's the Machinists Union went on strike against Boeing. I was a contractor working on-site and saw the whole sordid affair. The union would not even talk to Boeing for weeks, and while the machinists were on $100 a week strike pay, the union bosses took full salary. I opined that the bosses need to "stand with the rank and file" by taking only strike pay during the strike and NOT get make up back pay. I'd say that pols of all stripes need to do the same during a shutdown. Pay the workers back pay sure, but not the pols.
