More than 14,000 eviction cases are pending in Essex County court — most of them thought to involve Newark tenants — delayed because evictions have been suspended during the pandemic under Gov. Phil Murphy’s emergency order.
60,000 evictions are pending across the state, data from the state judiciary shows. Matt Shapiro, president of the New Jersey Tenants Association, said those likely represent only a fraction of evictions that will be filed once the moratorium ends.
“Most landlords haven’t filed evictions because of the lockout moratorium,” Shapiro said. “If we don’t do something, you’re going to see 200,000, 300,000 pending evictions.”

DeleteStationed in the Navy in Key West Florida back in 66-68. We spent the weekend in Ft. Lauderdale. Hitchhiking back to Key West,in uniform, we get picked up by a cop. He takes us to Hialeah Race Track and has a Miami cop meet us and give us a ride. We get to the center of Miami in Rt1 and the cop gets a call and has to let us out. We walk across the street and a blue Goat just like the picture stops at a red light next to us. We stick out our thumbs when the guy makes a right. He stops. We get in and notice the guy is wearing all blue,shoes, pants and shirt, just like the car including the hair. We figured he was cruising for company but never made any suggestions and took us almost to Key Largo.
