An angel went down to Georgia...

That angel done stole our Charlie...

Charlie Daniels, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame who sang "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," recorded with Bob Dylan and was a vocal supporter of U.S. veterans, died Monday morning after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke. He was 83.

By the time the Charlie Daniels Band topped the charts with “Devil” in 1979, the instrumentalist, singer and songwriter had long established a remarkable, multifaceted career in Nashville. As a session musician, he played on three of Bob Dylan’s albums - including the revolutionary “Nashville Skyline” - as well as recordings for Ringo Starr and Leonard Cohen.

He was a fixture of the touring circuit for the next 40 years, became a tireless advocate for servicemen and women, and entered the information age as one of country music's most outspoken conservative voices.

I saw him a coupla times with his own band in the 80's, but my strongest memories of him are from back in 1977 when I worked very briefly (5 weeks) as a roadie for the Marshall Tucker Band on a west coast tour swing and Charlie was along for the ride playing with the band.

Nothing but great - somewhat foggy and groggy - memories of that summer gig.

SPEAKING OF GEORGIA:

Georgia’s governor on Monday declared a state of emergency and authorized the activation of up to 1,000 National Guard troops after a weekend of violence in Atlanta left five people dead, including an 8-year-old girl. A statement from Gov. Brian Kemp’s office says troops will provide support at certain locations including the Capitol and governor’s mansion, freeing up state law enforcement resources to patrol other areas.

“Peaceful protests were hijacked by criminals with a dangerous, destructive agenda. Now, innocent Georgians are being targeted, shot, and left for dead,” the Republican governor said. “This lawlessness must be stopped and order restored in our capital city.”

Saturday night’s fatal shooting of Secoriea Turner, 8, prompted a $10,000 reward for information as authorities searched for at least two people who opened fire on the car she was riding in near a flashpoint of recent protests.

Nancy Pelosi’s husband among lawmaker-
linked PPP loan recipients

Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said that her husband Paul Pelosi is “a minor, passive investor in this company. He was not involved in or even aware of this PPP loan.”

Pelosi owns 8.1 percent of EDI Associates, which got a loan between $350,000 and $1 million. The company invests in the El Dorado Hotel in Sonoma, Calif. Pelosi’s stake is worth between a quarter and half-million dollars.

I'm sure the guy knew nothing about this, but somehow news people care about stupid shit like this, or at the very least, they think we do.

NJ Guv Phil 'Dick-for-brains' Murphy is hitting the pause button on reopening N.J. - AGAIN -  as coronavirus rate of transmission rises in the state.

“We’re here right now,” the governor said during his latest coronavirus briefing in Trenton. “My guess is we’re gonna be here a bit.” That means businesses and services that have not yet reopened - including gyms, indoor dining sections of bars and restaurants, movie theaters, performing arts centers, and more - will likely have to keep waiting. That is, if they somehow survive...

Honest to god this guy has no idea how many small businesses he's killing. This motherfucker is unbelievable.

New Jersey is currently in Stage 2 of a multi-phrase reopening plan that Murphy presented in May. Murphy said officials will restart the process if they see the state’s transmission rate and daily positivity rate go down and stay down.

The governor said one of the key figures officials watch to decide how to gradually peel back restrictions is the transmission rate — the number of people one infected resident passes COVID-19 to. It's just a question of time before he starts making people wear arm bands if they've had the virus.

Patrick Mahomes agrees to record-breaking $503 million, 10-year extension with Chiefs

50 Mil a year to play a fuckin' game. Jeezzzzzz. This coronavirus pandemic bullshit mighta put a halt to virtually every major sport in the world, but it couldn't stop the sports business from booming - at least if you're an elite athlete - you know - 'the best of the best'.

In March 2019, Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout signed the (then) largest contract in professional sports history, worth $426.5 million.

Just sixteen months later, despite a virus that has most people genuinely not giving a flying rat's ass fuck about sports, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has topped Trout.

New York City, hit hard by the incredible mis-management of this whole coronavirus pandemic and run by a complete fuckin' moron in Bill deBlasio - is mired in the worst economic calamity since the financial crisis of the 1970s, when it nearly went bankrupt. The city is staggering toward reopening with some workers back at their desks or behind cash registers, and on Monday, it began a new phase, allowing personal-care services like nail salons and some outdoor recreation to resume. Even so, the city’s unemployment rate is hovering near 20 percent - a figure not seen since the Great Depression.

What was intended as a “pause” has dragged on so long that for many workers, furloughs are turning into permanent job losses. And it ain't gonna get better with this asshole at the helm.

It's a shame, really - I love the City.

Longtime Melania Trump Insider To Release ‘Explosive’ Tell-All Book

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a close friend of Melania Trump and a former adviser to the East Wing, will release a memoir detailing her friendship with the first lady on Sept. 1. Wolkoff's 'Melania and Me: My Years as Confidant, Advisor and Friend to the First Lady' will be released on September 1, according to Vanity Fair.

It promises a revealing and explosive portrayal of Stephanie Winston Wolkoff's fifteen-year friendship with Melania Trump and "observations of the most chaotic White House in history".

This does beg the question, though - Who's the bigger fuckin' whore in this? The jerkoff who writes the book? The jerkoff who publishes it? Or the fuckin' moron woman who'd actually buy it.

I hope she sells two copies. Piece of shit.

Two US Navy aircraft carriers are conducting exercises in the contested South China Sea within sight of Chinese naval vessels spotted near the flotilla just days after Beijing threatened to destroy the strike group.

The US Navy hasn't brought carriers together for such shows of force in the region since 2014 when the USS George Washington and USS Carl Vinson sailed there side by side. But this year's drill with the USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan comes amid heightened tension as the US continues to criticize China over its novel coronavirus response and accuses it of taking advantage of the pandemic to push territorial claims in the South China Sea and elsewhere.

'They have seen us and we have seen them,' Rear Admiral James Kirk said in a telephone interview from the Nimitz, which has been conducting flight drills in the waterway with the Seventh Fleet carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan, that began on July 4. China's foreign ministry said the US had deliberately sent its ships to the South China Sea to flex its muscles and accused it of trying to drive a wedge between countries in the region.

The Pentagon, when it announced the dual carrier exercise, said it wanted to 'stand up for the right of all nations to fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows', describing its 100,000-ton ships and the 90 or so aircraft they each carry as a 'symbol of resolve'. Over the weekend, the Navy said the USS Nimitz and the USS Ronald Reagan along with their accompanying vessels and aircraft conducted exercises 'designed to maximize air defense capabilities, and extend the reach of long-range precision maritime strikes from carrier-based aircraft in a rapidly evolving area of operations'.
