California Calls for Residents 65 and Older to Stay at Home
Gov. Gavin Newsom also said bars and wineries should close but restaurants could stay open if they cut their occupancy in half.
Gov. Gavin Newsom - a full-blown fuckin' idiot if there ever was one - called yesterday for what he called “profoundly significant steps” to limit the spread of coronavirus, including the isolation at home of all residents 65 years and older; the closure of nightclubs, wineries and bars; and the purchase by the state of hotels to shelter some of the state’s 150,000 homeless people.
The orders in the nation’s most populous state came as governors across the country began to impose further limits on public gatherings in an attempt to slow the spread of a virus that has already claimed nearly 60 lives in the United States.
“We need to meet this moment aggressively,” Mr. Newsom said. “The most important thing is to protect our most vulnerable.”
Around five million seniors in California would be affected by the guidelines, which also apply to people with certain chronic health conditions.
Let the motherfucker come to my house and tell me I have to stay inside. Let him - or anyone - try.
This is something out of a not-scary B-movie from the 50's. It's ridiculous, and we should be very, VERY concerned about how these people think they can control our lives and restrict our freedom over a so-called 'health crisis'.
The governor also banned all visits to nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and hospitals except for cases in which a patient is on the edge of death.
The purchase of hotels and motels by the state would help reduce crowding at homeless shelters. Researchers have said homeless people, many of whom have medical ailments, are among the most vulnerable to coronavirus.

Ohio, Washington and Illinois ordered all bars and restaurants in the states to shut down service.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced Sunday that he has ordered all bars and restaurants in the state to shut down service beginning at 9 p.m.
"How long will this order be in effect? We don't, frankly, know," DeWine told reporters Sunday. "It will be in effect for as long as it needs to."
DeWine said carryout and delivery services were not included in the order, and he said his administration is working to help small businesses that will inevitably suffer.
Ohio's decision came as other states are putting similar protocols in place. On Sunday, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker ordered bars and restaurants in the state to close from Monday to March 30. On CNN on Sunday, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said he plans to enact a similar policy.
FYI - DeWine is a Republican.

Mayor Bill de Blasio considers locking down the Big Apple
to contain the outbreak.
“Every option is on the table in a crisis,” de Blasio said Sunday morning on CNN. “We’ve never seen anything like this,” he said. The mayor did not say what a lockdown would entail, but he detailed the powers he has to shut down the city when he declared a state of emergency last week.
“So there’s the ability to establish a curfew. There’s the ability to regulate whether vehicles or individuals may enter or leave specific parts of the city. There is the ability to close down public transportation,” de Blasio said at a press briefing on March 12.
“There’s the ability to order hospitals to postpone elective procedures, to ration supplies or impose restrictions on supplies and prices – and price gouging,” he said. He can even “suspend or limit alcohol use, firearms, explosives, flammable material and liquids.”

Just in case you are starting to think that only politicians are scumbags, there's these two guys from Tennessee...
The greedy bros who bought almost 18,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to profit off the coronavirus were finally cleaned out on Sunday — when they were shut down by Tennessee prosecutors.
Just a day after they whined about the likes of eBay and Amazon closing their price gouging attempts, Matt Colvin and Noah Colvin were ordered by the state’s Attorney General to “stop buying and selling medical goods and products.” “We will not tolerate price gouging in this time of exceptional need, and we will take aggressive action to stop it,” Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III said Sunday of the investigation.
The anti-price-gouging law was in place because Tennessee Governor Bill Lee had declared a state of emergency over COVID-19. The Colvins, facing a huge backlash over their scheme, had said late Saturday that they would donate the stockpiled sanitizer to “a local church and first responders.”
Hoarding bros hoping to profiteer off coronavirus stuck with 17K bottles of hand sanitizer
Agents from the prosecutor’s office were then filmed by WRCB on Sunday as they removed boxes from the brothers, with reporter Hunter Hoagland dryly suggesting they were there “facilitating with the donation.” “This is the 3rd stop they’ve been to this morning to gather the sanitizer,” he said with a clip of boxes being lugged into a truck from a lockup. The AG had involved prosecutors from Kentucky in the case as the brothers admitted they had cleaned out numerous stores in that state, too.
“This is a time where we have to focus on helping our neighbors, not profiting from them,” Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said. “We’re not going to tolerate selfish actions that put the health of Kentuckians at risk, and I’m grateful for Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery’s partnership in bringing an end to this harmful scheme.”
The brothers admitted to the New York Times that they made a 1,300-mile road trip across Tennessee and Kentucky to buy 17,700 bottles of hand sanitizer and thousands of packs of antibacterial wipes, selling them for up to $70 a bottle.

This really is a great new idea, and in this day and age, it's getting more and more important to know who's who and what's what, especially at the front door of your home.
Remember - knowledge is power.
This version is motion-activated. It'll tell YOU when someone comes to your door - even when you're not home!

This humongous piece of shit, the former Mayor of Jacksonville,
came within just a few 1,000 votes of becoming the Governor of Florida.
THAT is how fucked up party politics is.
THAT is how fucked up party politics is.
The former Florida gubernatorial candidate made the decision after he was found inebriated inside a Miami Beach hotel room early Friday morning with another man who allegedly overdosed on crystal meth. “After conversation with my family and deep reflection, I have made the decision to seek help, guidance and enter a rehabilitation facility at this time,” Gillum said in a statement.
Gillum, a Democrat who lost to now-Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2018, revealed that since that race, he “fell into a depression that has led to alcohol abuse.” Without addressing Friday’s events, he said, “This has been a wake-up call for me.” The 40-year-old was found vomiting in the bathroom of Mondrian South Beach by Aldo Mejias, 56, who then called police.
Another man, Travis Dyson, 30, collapsed on the bed and was treated for a possible drug overdose. Officers found three baggies of crystal meth on the bed and hotel room floor, according to Miami New Times. In a statement after Friday’s incident, Gillum said alcohol — not drugs — was to blame for his intoxicated state.

Do you snore - or worse -
does someone next to you in bed snore?
does someone next to you in bed snore?
I've been told I sound like an out of breath race horse on a fast-moving freight train when I'm sleeping. Just don't know - never wakes me up, but ever-so light sleeping, my wife wakes up if a fly farts in the other room.
Anyway, I broke down and started taking one of these every night before I go to bed. Damned if they don't work - old eagle ears tells me I'm not snoring any more. Remember, what the old Chinese guy supposedly said: 'Happy wife - happy life'.
You bet yer ass. She ain't breakin' balls about this any more, and I ain't gettin' that oh-so-delightful elbow in the fuckin' ribs at 3 in the morning anymore.
It really does work. I would NOT bullshit you on this.

I agree with your post. I live in Ohio and was very upset about this asshole closing shit down. Tomorrow is Election Day here and I hope he gets voted out of office. This has gone way too far. He already jacked up the prices of hunting and fishing in the state.

DeleteJoe, There isn't enough hospital space in all of Florida for the residents of The Village who will go down hard with the Wuhan Flu if ya'll keep acting like this isn't an issue. I like your blog, the politicians all suck, but you're wrong on the response to the WuFlu. Get some brews, sit home and ride this one out.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say it isn't an issue and I appreciate your sentiment. My thing is the draconian measures being taken by pols with way too much power, combined with the total lack of common sense among people these days is what's making this thing unbearable.
