Napa Valley’s already struggling wine industry is being slapped with a new groundwater bill as county officials scramble to meet California’s state-mandated 'sustainability goals'. Even grape growers who don’t pump groundwater will have to cough up $17.53 for every planted acre under proposed fees for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Those who actually use groundwater for irrigation face another $26.91 per acre, taking their total hit to $44.44. County officials argue that even growers who dry-farm or use surface or recycled water benefit from having groundwater available.

 

The madness behind all of this 'Green' bullshit gets worse by the hour. So, if you have an active aquifer - you know - we call them 'wells', you actually pay what amounts to a fine - a penalty - for being self-sufficient. And some may wonder why that State is as fucked up as it is. Jeez...

President Harry S. Truman happily displays a copy of the Chicago Daily Tribune with its famous erroneous headline, "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN," following his historic upset victory in the 1948 presidential election.

Due to an early morning print deadline and a labor strike, the Tribune relied on early projections and went to press before complete election tallies proved the polls wrong.

Incumbent Democrat Harry S. Truman defeated Republican challenger Thomas E. Dewey, securing one of the greatest and most surprising comebacks in American political history.

Taking threats seriously, and other silliness...

President Trump was secretly whisked off Air Force One in an airport catering truck last month and departed Turkey on a separate military flight in response to a threat from Iran, according to a report. 

The secret mission, reported by the Washington Post on Monday, left journalists and even White House staff believing that they were on the same plane as the president when they departed the annual NATO Summit in Ankara on July 8. But in reality they served as a decoy while Trump traveled in a smaller, Air Force C-32A. 

The elaborate ruse saw Trump publicly board an older model of Air Force One before being smuggled out in a catering truck that had been lifted up to a door on the opposite side of the entrance to the presidential plane. 

By my way of thinking, I'd imagine he didn't enjoy that very much. The guy is used to a kinda 'lavish' lifestyle, if ya get my drift. For him to have done this, the threat musta been very serious. Juss' sayin'...

When the Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak tomorrow night, the moon will be in its new moon phase, giving off no light. The following night, on Aug. 13, the moon will be in its waxing crescent phase, with only 1% illumination. The dark skies will enhance the view for stargazers hoping to catch a glimpse of some shooting stars and brighter fireballs, experts say. The best viewing period is expected to be during the overnight hours of Wednesday, Aug. 12, through the predawn hours of Thursday, Aug. 13.

Some experts say another good viewing opportunity should be during the early morning hours on Aug. 12. In areas with dark, cloudless skies, as many as 50 to 100 meteors per hour could be seen during the Perseid meteor shower during its peak. “With swift and bright meteors, Perseids frequently leave long ‘wakes’ of light and color behind them as they streak through Earth’s atmosphere,” NASA notes. “Perseids are also known for their fireballs... larger explosions of light and color that can persist longer than an average meteor streak.”

Long and short of it, I'll drive that fucker in to the ground. If I have to put three grand a year in to it, it's still a bargain, unlike buying a new one for around 50g's, know what I mean? Anyway, I digress again. If I ever did have to put Ole' Blue down, I think I'd like that old 1935 Buick Model 67 Five-Passenger Sedan to take her place. Car'd be a fuckin' chick magnet to boot, but it's not like anything's gonna happen, if ya know what I mean...

It’s a beautiful quote that highlights an important idea, but there’s no evidence Nietzsche is the author. One of the oldest printed versions of the quote appears in a London newspaper, The Times of London, in 1927. "They who dance are thought mad by those who hear not the music. The truth of the old proverb was never more surely borne out that it is just now."

The newspaper identifies the idea as an “old proverb,” indicating that this piece of wisdom was around during and perhaps before Nietzsche’s time. What’s wonderful about a great idea is that it can stand on its own. Great ideas should not gain greater credibility due to their authorship. The reverse should be true, that an author ought to be better-regarded when they come up with a valuable, original idea.

Fauci lied and babies died...

 Anthony Fauci privately raised concerns that the COVID-19 vaccine could “theoretically” be linked to miscarriages in expectant mothers, despite having publicly insisted there were “no red flags” for pregnant women.

“I asked around a bit more and another issue came up that you need to be aware of,” wrote Fauci in a Jan. 25, 2021, text exchange with then-Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky and Surgeon General Vivek Murthy. “Since many people have significant cytokines storm and fever after the 2nd dose, this theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester,” added the then-National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director.

It must be International 'Fuck with the bison' Month...

This is the second time this month we're seeing some idiot being shown what's what by a bison, proving oncec again than man really is dumber than some of the dumbest animals. A wild video captured a rampaging bison striking down a tourist in a Polish forest - and refusing to let the man stand up. The man was only 20 feet away from the bison in Poland’s Białowieża Forest last Monday when the ginormous animal suddenly charged at him and knocked him to the ground, local outlet TVP World reported.

 

Footage posted to social media then captured the pissed off bison standing over the unidentified tourist as he lay on the ground. When the man attempts to stand again, the aggrevated wild animal quickly swipes at him and shoves him to the ground once again. 

Once again, it's beast over man. Or is that beast over idiot.

Yeah - but who's gonna try drinking it? Not me. I don't even like Guiness...

A team of divers came across a 162-year-old bottle of Guinness while exploring a shipwreck off the UK coast – and there’s a possibility the stout could still be drinkable. Stefan Panis, an underwater photographer from Belgium, was stunned when he discovered the glass bottle in the wreckage of the Mindoro in the English Channel last year. “I resurfaced and the top of the bottle was super clear, and I was really amazed to see ‘Guinness Extra Stout London,’ Panis said. 

The bottle was found in the boat’s cargo. Panis and fellow diver Eddie Huzzie, 68, then sent samples from the 19th century bottle to microbiologists at the research university KU Leuven in Belgium. 

“There is always a chance that we can recover the complete DNA, and then we can do a small re-brew of the exact beer that was found in the 1860s”. Panis, who admitted he’s not a huge fan of the stout, said the contents of the bottle might still be drinkable - but he’s waiting for the analysis first. 

Personally, I'd wait for one of them to sample it first. Juss' sayin'...
