As American as it gets
I've enjoyed Gershwin's music since I was a kid. No kidding...
This is a classic from the movie Rhapsody in Blue.
Robert Alda ( Hawkeye/Allan Alda's father) was a terrible actor and the movie was
grossly over-melodramatic, BUT it was a Warner Brother's production filmed in 1945.
Also in the movie were major -babes-of-the-time Alexis Smith and Joan Leslie.

This is Frank Torre - Joe Torre's brother.
He played in the Majors as a first baseman. Torre, who batted and threw left-handed, played for the Milwaukee Braves (1956–60) and Philadelphia Phillies (1962–63). His two best seasons were in 1957 and 1958; in the former year, he batted .272 with 5 home runs and 40 runs batted in. He once scored six runs in one game, the first game of a September 2 doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, which the Braves won 23–10. The Braves beat the Yankees in that year's World Series; Torre homered twice in the Series, which the Braves won in seven games on the strength of Lew Burdette's three victories. Yvonne De Carlo was a Canadian born American actress, singer, and dancer whose career spanned more than seven decades. A brunette with blue-grey eyes, voluptuous figure, and a deep sultry voice, she was one of most recognizable stars in the golden age of Hollywood and an early multihyphenate. She began taking dancing lessons at the age of three and spent her late teens performing in various night clubs and on stage. She made her screen debut in 1941 in an uncredited role in the comedy film ‘Harvard, Here I Come’. After appearing in several other movies in the same capacity, she played the titular character in the 1945 western drama ‘Salome, Where She Danced’. Her next important role was in ‘Song of Scheherazade’ in 1947, which though gave traction to her career, ended up typecasting her as an Arabian Nights-type temptress dressed in harem attire. Despite this stereotyping, she did significant work in comedy and western genres, and was part of the main cast of the 1960s sitcom ‘The Munsters’.

Today is also the anniversary of the fall of Atlanta in 1864.
During the American Civil War, Atlanta was a critical confederate hub. On this day, Union forces led by General William Tecumseh Sherman lay siege to Atlanta, Georgia. They shelled the civilians and cutt off the supply lines. As a result, the Confederates retreated and the Atlanta fell to Union forces. Here's a great resource:

Taliban militants
launched an attack on the Afghan city of Kunduz from multiple directions early
Saturday morning, the first major Taliban
assault on the provincial capital since 2016.
Armed clashes between the militants and Afghan forces have left dozens of
Taliban dead. The Afghan Air Force responded with air strikes, Aman added. Afghan forces had
cleared Kunduz of Taliban fighters by Saturday evening, he said, though
fighting continued around the outskirts of the city. 36 Taliban fighters were killed, 10 were injured, and 32 surrendered.
He said he did not have details about civilian casualties.
The attack comes as the United States and Taliban
representatives are negotiating for American forces to leave
Afghanistan. The Afghan government is not involved in those talks, which are
taking place in Doha, Qatar.
