Time keeps on slippin' slippin slippin...

It's September 1st already. Where did the summer go? Jeez...

Today is Yvonne DeCarlo's birthday

Mrs. Lilly Munster of course...

Yvonne De Carlo was a Canadian born American actress, singer, and dancer whose career spanned more than seven decades. A brunette with blue-grey eyes, voluptuous figure, and a deep sultry voice, she was one of most recognizable stars in the golden age of Hollywood and an early multihyphenate. She began taking dancing lessons at the age of three and spent her late teens performing in various night clubs and on stage. She made her screen debut in 1941 in an uncredited role in the comedy film ‘Harvard, Here I Come’. After appearing in several other movies in the same capacity, she played the titular character in the 1945 western drama ‘Salome, Where She Danced’. Her next important role was in ‘Song of Scheherazade’ in 1947, which though gave traction to her career, ended up typecasting her as an Arabian Nights-type temptress dressed in harem attire. Despite this stereotyping, she did significant work in comedy and western genres, and was part of the main cast of the 1960s sitcom ‘The Munsters’.

Men of the US 5th Infantry Division advance toward Fontainebleau en route to Paris, France, supported by M10 tank destroyers of the 818th Tank Destroyer Battalion. August 23, 1944 (Note the M1A1 Bazooka carried by the soldier in the foreground)

After two years of training the 5th ID landed in Normandy on Utah Beach, 9 July 1944, over a month after the initial D-Day landings, and four days later took up defensive positions in the vicinity of Caumont. Launching a successful attack at Vidouville 26 July, the division drove on southeast of Saint-Lô, attacked and captured Angers, 9–10 August, captured Chartres, (assisted by the 7th Armored Division), 18 August, pushed to Fontainebleau, crossed the Seine at Montereau, 24 August, crossed the Marne and seized Reims, 30 August, and positions east of Verdun.

Today is also the anniversary of the fall of Atlanta in 1864.

During the American Civil War, Atlanta was a critical confederate hub. On this day, Union forces led by General William Tecumseh Sherman lay siege to Atlanta, Georgia. They shelled the civilians and cutt off the supply lines. As a result, the Confederates retreated and the Atlanta fell to Union forces. Here's a great resource:

The majority of projections still have it offshore on the East Coast and that's a-o-fuckin'-kay with me.

Guy on the radio here said yesterday that watching this thing is kinda like 'being stalked by a turtle'.

Otherwise, this is it for today.

Can you tell me why we're talking to these miserable hill-rat camel ridin' goat fuckin' jerkoffs?

Taliban militants launched an attack on the Afghan city of Kunduz from multiple directions early Saturday morning, the first major Taliban assault on the provincial capital since 2016.

Armed clashes between the militants and Afghan forces have left dozens of Taliban dead. The Afghan Air Force responded with air strikes, Aman added. Afghan forces had cleared Kunduz of Taliban fighters by Saturday evening, he said, though fighting continued around the outskirts of the city.  36 Taliban fighters were killed, 10 were injured, and 32 surrendered. He said he did not have details about civilian casualties.
The attack comes as the United States and Taliban representatives are negotiating for American forces to leave Afghanistan. The Afghan government is not involved in those talks, which are taking place in Doha, Qatar.

  2. I've heard that the color blue in some cultures is used to ward off evil spirits. You have a picture of a blue fence but the gate is open. That could be a metaphor for our border.

  3. Thanks for the pic of Yvonne DeCarlo, she was a hotty in her day. I think I'll search for a cheesecake pic of Beverly Owen (Marilyn Munster for 1 season).

  4. Yvonne De Carlo
I will always remember her in "Mclintock"
She hated working on the Munster's, but had to because her stuntman husband was hurt and out of work.
