As American as it gets

I've enjoyed Gershwin's music since I was a kid. No kidding...

This is a classic from the movie Rhapsody in Blue.

Robert Alda ( Hawkeye/Allan Alda's father) was a terrible actor and the movie was
grossly over-melodramatic, BUT it was a Warner Brother's production filmed in 1945.
Also in the movie were major -babes-of-the-time Alexis Smith and Joan Leslie.

Alda and Oscar Levant

Levant actually played himself in the movie - how does anyone actually do that?

Joan Leslie dancing with Fred Astaire (not in this movie dummy)
...

Alexis Smith - a classic war-time beauty if ever there was one.

This is the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra performing Gershwin's other masterpiece

An American in Paris

Gene Kelly wrote, directed, choreographed and starred in the single greatest musical movie
ever made -   AN AMERICAN IN PARIS.

Here's the opening sequence from the movie:

  1. My wife is a huge Gershwin fan, given her own talents on the piano. When she began college, she told admissions she wanted to major in Gershwin. Imagine her disappointment.
