Simple ideas - if ya don't need it, ya don't need to buy it. If somebody has something you can borrow instead of buying one for yourself, borrow away.
Good friends and neighbors usually don't mind.
I do a simple little thing that ends up forcing some real savings - I don't ever spend five dollar bills. I get one or more in change, I take it home and stick it in a drawer. Same with all coins. No matter what I have in my pocket at the end of the day, it gpes in the jar. After a few months, there's usually three or four hundred bucks in there between the two, that I then put in what we call our 'funny money account' - a little savings account that we rarely draw down from. When we do withdraw from that account, we do frivolous shit like go to Ireland or shit like that. It really works!
