A massive brawl erupted inside Armenia’s parliament as rival MPs clash over a “Ministry of Sex” 'discussion'. Video footage shows furious ministers throwing punches and hurling chairs over some crazy plans to tackle 'declining sex drives in women'. At one point a politician empties a glass of water over another’s head while his esteemed colleagues kick one another in the groin.
The violent brawl on Thursday – the third in a matter of days – was sparked by a bizarre proposal from the opposition party. Ministers from the pro-Russia Strong Armenia party suggested creating a Ministry of Sex after claiming that a lack of sexual satisfaction was leading women into political activism.
The ruling party, Civil Contract, immediately shut down the raunchy department plans – which had aimed to leave “no unsatisfied women”. Tempers boiled over when a ruling party MP demanded an apology – a command which was met by an all-out fisticuffs frenzy.
Rival MPs rushed up to the podium where Civil Contract MP Taron Chakhoyan was speaking and began pummelling one another. One man can be seen slipping off his blazer and elegantly draping it over a wooden bannister before leaping into the fray. Vahagn Aleksanyan, the parliament’s deputy speaker, threw a red leather chair while Chakhoyan was seen pouring a glass of water over Garnik Davtyan, an opposition MP.
Armenia’s prime minister Nikol Pashinyan later told reporters: “I condemn violence, but I support the measures taken by the Civil Contract faction today. “Whether with a chair or something else, it is proportionate and right...”
