Over 8,000 dresses. One show. Four decades. That's the math behind Vanna White's wardrobe on Wheel of Fortune. She joined in 1982, and nearly every episode since has meant a brand-new outfit. With about six shows filmed in a day, that's a lot of fittings and a lot of sequins. The gowns are mostly borrowed from designers, so there's no mega-closet at home.
⠀The streak did have one slip: in 2020, a production mistake put a dress back on screen a second time, and her stylist caught it too late. One repeat in more than 40 years is still pretty impressive. Sometimes the real puzzle is what to wear.
Every couple of weeks, White tries on 40 to 50 dresses to pick out 12 options for the next two days of taping. White does not get to keep the clothes after filming. They are taken off and returned to the wardrobe department or designers for on-air credit. However, designers occasionally allow her to borrow pieces for red-carpet events like the Emmys.
