This political cartoon by Gary Varvel plays on the word "aliens" to satirize the Department of Justice (DOJ) probing noncitizen voting - in case you didn't catch that Maybe it's a little too subtle, but once you hop to it, it's a nice jab at the fact that virtually none of the States are doing their jobs vetting voters.
Instead of showing human undocumented immigrants or noncitizens, the comic depicts famous science-fiction "aliens" holding registration forms and lining up at a desk labeled "Voter Registration." Characters in line (from left to right): 1. ALF (from the 1980s TV sitcom ALF) 2. Yoda (from Star Wars) 3. Marvin the Martian (from Looney Tunes) 4. E.T. (from the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial).
Here's the thing. I have never been challenged at a voting place. Never. Do they even still do that?
Every State, every Coumty and every (at least big) City has an election board. Aside from buying the machines and sharpening a bunch of pencils, what else do they do? New Jersey just got busted again for non-citizens voting in Federal elections, and don't even get me started on the Land of Fruits and Nuts - that's gotta be a friggin' disaster.
So tell me - who's watching the watchers beside the Feds?
That is SO fucked up. Juss' sayin'...
