Starting with a question and then it's downhill from there...

Y'all saw that video of Trump wrestling with the tiger that I posted last night, right? If not, keep scrolling down after this post. Anyway, as silly as it was, it was still fairly believable - visually speaking, not 'real' real, but I digress yet again.
The fact that something like that could be created so on-the-fly, so quickly, points to what may be the biggest danger facing us from AI as we see it now. Not mass or mutual destruction - something far worse - deception. If they can craft something that believable that fast, what can they do with more time and effort. They could make a video of Bill Clinton admitting he actually did get his dick sucked in the Oval Office. They could make video of J. Edgar Hoover admitting that he is/was a tallywagger who liked to dress up and play hide the salami with his butler.
Going forward, we're gonna have to be super careful believing what we see.
That'd be kinda unlike now, when we - well actually 'they' (you know who they are) - believe anything, as long as it's anti-Donald. Juss' sayin'...

This image is a clip from Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film adaptation of Lolita,
showing the entrance sign for Camp Climax for Girls. In Vladimir Nabokov's 1955 original novel, the camp is named Camp Q - a subtle French pun/innuendo - which the movie altered to "Camp Climax".

Granted, I haven't bought a new vehicle in over 20+ years - I'm still driving 'Big Blue', my '05 F-150 that I bought with six miles on the odometer that now reads 200k, but I do wonder. What is the driving influence that has people choosing one vehicle over the other - especially when they're so similar in size and shape and design - that people have to put goofy shit on their cars just to differentiate them from the others?
Aside from brand loyalty and price tag, what else would drive (no pun intended) a person to choose a Hundai over a Chevy, or a Volvo instead of a Lexus? Any thoughts or funny anecdotes you can share about car buying? Dive right in. I'm truly curious...

I don't think this was part of the Dale Carnegie course
'How to make friends and influence people'...

Rule Numero Uno for political  interviews? Don't stop at the pub on your way to the gig. This dimwit Dimorat appeared to slur her words and warned her rivals “we have guns” during a car crash interview – leaving viewers asking if she was drunk. Democrat candidate Jaime West bumbled through a long and winding tirade in the mind-boggling clip – tearing into Maga Republicans and calling them dumb.
Mincing her words on a televised general election candidates’ forum, she vowed to fire all Donald Trump-supporting Republicans. She called Maga politicians “racist” and not “very intelligent at all”. Asked what her message to voters would be at the end of the interview, West stared into the camera bog-eyed and said plainly: “We have guns too.” West, who is standing for Fayette County Council, District 4, in the Hoosier State, also claimed she had been threatened by Maga Republicans.

While you probably just hop in your car and take a short drive to your local Costco, one couple from Alaska goes the extra mile – or a few hundred miles – to stock up on the warehouse club’s bulk buys. Shelby Ellingsen and her boyfriend take a 20-hour boat ride from their home in the island community of Sitka to the Costco in Juneau each year, spending thousands of dollars and filling up a U-Haul truck’s worth of goods.
While a direct flight to Juneau takes less than an hour, traveling by plane isn’t necessarily feasible for all the baggage that Ellingsen, who is in her 30s, and her boyfriend plan on bringing back home from Costco. The couple instead treks on an annual shopping trip to the small warehouse – which is about half the size of a standard Costco store – via a large boat, which takes around 20 hours each way.
P2 - you know about this? Is it legit?

  1. Why choose a particular vehicle if they all look alike? In a word, value. External appearance is driven by physics (that is, CAFE standards). Internally, there can be big differences, and those affect durability, comfort, life, and overall cost per mile. For example, a timing chain vs a timing belt (Toyota vs Honda) - a chain doesn't wear (much), while a belt should be a maintenance item every 75K miles or 8-10 years. If you keep your car for 250K miles or 20 years, that's a 5 grand difference in maintenance cost. And so on. Vs Toyota/Honda, Euro brands (BMW et al) are hugely expensive to maintain, worse to repair; American brands are generally cheaper to buy but more expensive to own long term. I've been driving for 60+ years, and owned 6 cars, total. One of those, a Chevy Nova, lasted 30+ years and effectively paid for my first house in avoided car payments. My second daily drive, a Mazda 323, gave me an extra $100K to invest in an IRA between 1981 and 1991....

  2. I lived in Juneau less than a mile from that Costco for 14 years. Yes, it's legit that people come from all over the region to stock up there. I did the same when living in other island communities--it's just a way of life on the Inside Passage.

  4. If I were to buy a new car it would be the one that doesn't spy on me. Are there any of those?

  9. With all the scam artists auto calling people nowadays just waiting for responses they suggest that you no longer answer your phone with hello but instead with silence. The autocallers listen for a response and if they get one they put you through to a real scammer. If one isn't available they highlight your number and hang up. Giving your name gives them information they didn't have before that they store next to your number so they can personalise it.

They also start by saying 'Can you hear me'. You say Yes and now they have you saying yes so they can put together a question and then have you answer Yes to it.

Trump needs to send in Delta Force and kill them all. I'm asking Trump although I'm in the UK because our useless spineless politicians are only focused on scamming us more than the scammers themselves.
