It looks more like somewhere you'd expect to see in New England
instead if the 'Sunshine State'. Blink as you drive down Highway 441 south of Gainesville and you will miss one of the most perfectly preserved little Victorian towns in all of Florida.
McIntosh is tiny, just a few hundred souls, but it holds something rare. When the citrus freezes and the shifting railroads that built so many Florida towns passed it by, McIntosh did not boom and it did not quite die either. It simply stayed itself. The result is streets lined with gingerbread trimmed homes and oak canopies that look much as they did well over a hundred years ago, a pocket of the 1890s that somehow survived the bulldozers.
Once a year the whole town throws open its doors for an old fashioned festival, and thousands of visitors wander beneath the mossy oaks past porches and picket fences. The rest of the year it dozes quietly beside Orange Lake, one of those places that reminds you Florida was a land of small farming towns and front porch evenings long before it was anything else.

it sort of looks like a place Doc Hollywood would have broke down and never wanted to leave.
