Is he a citizen? Look at his drivers license...

Beginning January 1, 2027, Florida plans to require newly issued, renewed, and replacement driver’s licenses and state ID cards to indicate whether the holder is a U.S. citizen. Governor Ron DeSantis signed the measure as part of a broader election and voter verification package.
Supporters argue the change could make voter eligibility easier to confirm, improve election administration, and strengthen public confidence in the voting process. They also point to additional provisions aimed at tightening voter registration and identification requirements.
Opponents contend that adding citizenship information to state-issued identification could raise privacy concerns and create challenges for some residents during routine interactions that require ID. Several advocacy groups have already signaled plans to challenge portions of the law in court.
The policy is expected to generate significant debate as Florida moves toward implementation and legal challenges begin to unfold.
