A San Jose Walmart has reportedly taken anti-theft measures to a new level, placing pricey cuts of beef and even packages of ground meat inside metal security cages to keep would-be shoplifters at bay. Influencer Tony Bartleson - better known online as “Meatdad” - posted a video from inside the California store showing rib-eye steaks and ground beef wrapped in wire security devices.
A 'Meat Influencer'? We've passed insane in to another realm...
Anyway, Holding up a cowboy rib-eye priced at nearly $16 a pound (which ain't such a bad price, acually), Bartleson quipped: “Welcome to California.”
The unusual security measures sparked fierce debate online, with many shoppers saying they understood why the retailer resorted to locking up meat.
With people stealing left and right as if it's some kind of given privilege, I don’t blame Walmart for doing this. If you’re an honest person who plans to pay for it, why would this bother you. Look around - there's thieves and scumbags everywhere around you…

Why would it bother me?!
ReplyDeleteWell, first off having the meat locked up says I live in a shithole and that thieves are not prosecuted, thus,I have to pay more for my meat and also, have to wait while some employee can be found to unlock the case!
That said,I live in a good area(at moment!) and do not shop for groceries at wally world.
Somehow I don't think this will deter or even slow down the myriad professional shoplifters.
ReplyDeleteWon't hire enough people to run the registers, but also won't hire enough people to unlock the cages.
ReplyDeleteWally-World Delivery is looking better and better.
Hi Joe!!,
ReplyDeleteBack when I was a "People Greeter" at Wally World .. Never mind the meat .. the banditos will steal any thing and are sometimes (so they think?) clever about it!! One dude we nick named the "Meat Monster" would get a buggy full of New York cut steak and other good cuts and when he would get near the door... he would make a run for it trying to push the cart past us even thought we grabbed onto it!! Fortunately we had these steel and concrete posts by the door and I directed the nose of the cart to it which brought it to a screeching halt!! The AP Guy was right there ... pointing his finger at him and he took off running.. Well we got the meat.. took the buggy to customer svc and they inventoried it... Well over $300.. and this was in 2012 so go figure by today's prices!!!

You know that inflation is out of control when meat is so pricy that is is worth for stores to install theft deterrents on individual packages.
ReplyDeleteMaybe 2 years ago(?) there was a You Tube video about a grocery store in Great Britain where customers ordered at a kiosk. Robots filled their orders. Customers paid then moved into the waiting area. When their boxes of groceries came off the conveyor belt, they showed their receipts then claim their goodies. Instead of robbing the grocery stores now the Obama sons are forced to rob customers headed for their cars.
