On 14 July 1944, this bunch of 19-year-olds had fought
their way from the beaches of Normandy up to this point
northwest of Saint-Lô, France...
Soldiers of the U.S. 3rd Armored Division standing in front of a hedgerow, holding a sign, made out of cardboard and shaped like a German Cross that says, "Soldiers surrender - you are surrounded."
Two men are armed with M1903 Springfields as a personal weapon. Until late 1944 and the introduction of the M7 Grenade launcher attachment for the Garand, the M1903 was the platform for grenade launching and 1 man per squad was armed with a M1903 variant.
The Battle of Saint-Lô is one of the three conflicts in the Battle of the Hedgerows, which took place between July 7-19, 1944, just before Operation Cobra. Saint-Lô had fallen to Germany in 1940, and, after the Invasion of Normandy, the Americans targeted the city, as it served as a strategic crossroads.
American bombardments caused heavy damage (up to 95% of the city was destroyed) and a high number of casualties, which resulted in the martyr city being called "The Capital of Ruins", popularised in a report by Samuel Beckett.

Given the option, wouldja or couldja? I'd love to have a place like this somewhere up in the mountains of North Carolina or East Tennessee maybe. Check it out - it even has a new HVAC unit. Maybe after my next Powerball win.

18-year-old Marcus Williams was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to break into an ATM using a metal pry bar. According to reports, surveillance video showed Williams approaching the ATM late at night and trying to force it open. During the attempt, the metal bar reportedly contacted internal electrical components, causing a fatal electric shock.
His family later filed a $500,000 lawsuit against the bank, claiming it was responsible for his death. The court rejected the lawsuit, ruling that Williams' death resulted from his own criminal actions and that the bank was not liable. The judge dismissed the case and ordered the family to reimburse the bank for the cost of repairing the damaged ATM.

This is a perfect example of why the internet - social media specifically - sucks as a news source. This image is fabricated and Matthew McConaughey did not make this statement. Searches of credible media reports, McConaughey's official X (formerly Twitter) account, and his Instagram account produced no confirmation of this quote.
The claim that McConaughey said "If Kamala Harris had become president of the U.S., Trump would be in prison..." is false. McConaughey previously called for Hollywood to accept Donald Trump after his 2017 inauguration, stating they "don't have much of a choice"

Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered an investigation into a hospital in South Texas after billboards advertised "Birth Packages" in both English and Spanish, featuring set prices for natural births and C-sections. The billboards, which directed viewers to "havemybabyinTEXA5.com," led to allegations that the hospital was targeting foreign nationals for "birth tourism" - the practice of traveling to the U.S. to ensure a child receives birthright citizenship. The hospital spokesperson stated that the marketing materials were removed due to "unintended misunderstanding" and that they are cooperating with state officials.

If you're relatively new here and haven't quite figured out what this whole blog thing here is all about, don't sweat it. I've been doing this going on six years or so and I still haven't quite figured it out myself.
Basically, what I do is I find shit online that interests me, and I keep it, but what I won't do is post it on social media, because that's already got too much clutter and bullshit on it without me adding more. So I started this - as a way of possibly sharing with others what I find of note. Amazingly to me, it appears quite a few people like what I like. Go figure. Hey - enjoy and have fun. Juss' sayin'...
