Caneel Bay is a historic 150-acre peninsula in the Virgin Islands National Park on St. John, USVI. Famous for its 7 pristine beaches and eco-luxury, the former resort sustained heavy hurricane damage in 2017. The federal government now owns the property and is actively seeking proposals for its redevelopment. The peninsula is currently undergoing environmental cleanup and phased restoration. While the main resort accommodations remain closed, you can still experience the location's natural beauty through the Caneel Bay Beach Club located on Honeymoon Beach. The U.S. government officially gained ownership of the lands and improvements in April 2024. The National Park Service is currently accepting proposals to redevelop the site into a 21st-century eco-resort. The National Park Service Caneel Bay Updates page outlines public access paths, such as the Lind Point Trail. You can visit Honeymoon Beach to rent kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and access beachfront amenities, food, and a bar.
