A bizarre new AI-powered dating service is sweeping across California college campuses by replacing endless swiping with computer-generated matchmaking that promises to find students more compatible dates.
Ditto, a startup founded in 2024 by former UC Berkeley students, is expanding rapidly after ditching the Tinder-style model in favor of an AI-driven system that pairs users based on their interests.
Instead of scrolling through profiles, students complete a survey that allows the platform’s AI to determine their matches. New pairings are generated every Wednesday, giving matched students the chance to choose a time that works for both.
It kinda takes all the fun out of the old 'hunt and chase' way that we had to deal with. These guys are already on their fourth date before they figure otut if they really like each other or just going along 'cause the 'puter said they should.
I know most of us aren't out in the market anymore (for a variety of reasons), but even still, I think I like our old-fashioned way of meeting a gal at a dance - not a rave, whatever the fuck the are - and trying desperately not to step on her feet during our first dance. You guys know what I mean, right?
