This is what was happening on this morning, 82 years ago. The youngest of these bravest souls would be at least 99 today. God bless each and every one of them - they truly were 'The Greatest Generation'. You never have and hopefully never will experience anything nearly as maddening, chaotic and frightening as this must have been, and yet they perservered, and were selfless in doing so.
And because of them - their bravery and sacrifice - we are here today, alive and free. Think about them - their trials and sacrifices and what they preserved for us - before you bitch about something truly trivial in your life or world...

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka is threatening to shut down the Delaney Hall immigration detention center as the Trump administration ramps up enforcement operations in the area. Baraka made the threat during a news conference, warning that continued federal activity around the facility could force the city to close it.
The mayor accused ICE agents of creating fear and instability, claiming their operations are disrupting the center and the individuals held there. The Delaney Hall facility has been a focal point of protests and clashes in recent weeks as the Trump administration increases arrests and deportations of criminal illegal aliens.
DHS officials pushed back, stating that Baraka and New Jersey’s sanctuary policies helped create the unrest by obstructing federal law enforcement and encouraging protests.
British Landing Craft Tanks (LCTs) lined up along the Normandy shore during the D-Day landings in June 1944.The large balloons floating above the ships are barrage balloons, which were tethered to the vessels to discourage enemy air attacks by creating a hazard for low-flying aircraft. These vessels were amphibious assault craft specifically designed to land tanks directly onto the beaches.

This is a work truck in London. Problem is a lot worse in Europe - especially England and France, where the Governments are super-liberal and wouldn't dream of turning anyone away. It's a clusterfuck like nothing we've seen here. What I find fascinating is how all of these immigrants, the vast majority of whom are Muslims, all go to Christian societies. None of them go to other Muslim countries.
Utah Beach, Normandy, June 6, 1944 - At 6:30 in the morning, the American 4th Infantry Division under General Barton, supported by amphibious tanks, reached the La Madeleine dunes on Sainte-Marie-du-Mont beach. As luck would have it, coastal currents had carried their landing craft two kilometres south of the planned location, where landing would have been a good deal more dangerous. Weakened by air and sea bombardment, German resistance was not up to scratch. The Americans only suffered minor losses, with some fifty dead and around 150 wounded. By the early afternoon, they had joined up with the 101st Airborne.

A brand-new Ford F-250 in Kansas was ready to leave the dealership - until a robin family moved in first. At Olathe Ford Lincoln in Olathe, Kansas, a mother robin built her nest directly on top of one of the truck’s tires after the vehicle had already been sold. Inside the nest were four bright blue eggs, which later hatched into baby robins the dealership nicknamed Lugnut, Axle, Diesel, and Turbo. But this was not a nest anyone could simply move. Because robins and their active nests are protected under the U.S. Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the truck had to stay exactly where it was until the chicks were old enough to leave on their own. Instead of rushing the sale, the dealership and the new owners chose patience, letting the tiny family grow safely in the wheel well of a truck built for power but temporarily claimed by nature. For a little while, the keys belonged to the birds - and one sold pickup became the most protected F-250 in America.

My father was in a field artillery company. He spent the 6th in an LST, and went ashore on the 7th. He fought over much the same territory my grandfather did a quarter century earlier. They might have slept in the same villages. Pourquois?
ReplyDeleteTake a look at the inmates of Buchenwald or Dachau, or guys who came out of Cabanatuan or Camp O'Donnell.
DeletePourquois? Indeed. I hate Commies.
Because politicians don't have to fight in the wars they start.
DeletePeople can't remember life under covid lockdowns much less D-Day. They still vote for the people who took away their freedom.
ReplyDeleteBolton deserves Gitmo, Abu Graib, or worse.
ReplyDeleteI vote for worse. Pompey, too.
DeleteThe Greatest Generation was coined by mushmouth Tom Brokaw to plater over how some of the Boomers libeled their fathjers during the Vietnam War.
ReplyDeleteThe real The Greatest Generation(s) were the ones in the 18th and 19th centuries who pushed the boundaries of civilization West and North (give the Spaniards their due), built a new nation and a new society, and lit a torch for the entire woprld.
