Open carry is a right here in Florida, but is it right?

Publix Supermarkets has changed its open carry policy, now allowing only law enforcement to openly carry firearms in its stores. The change was confirmed on the supermarket’s FAQ section of its website.
It comes after Publix previously announced last year that customers would be allowed to open carry, following a change in Florida law. That decision led to mixed reactions from customers. The new Florida law allows open carry but includes restrictions: it’s still prohibited for those under 21 or with felony convictions. Private businesses can also opt out.
As a former (long time ago former) cop and a gun owner - and something of an advocate, I didn't agree with the open-carry thing only because in my heart of hearts I know sure as the day is long, some people are idiots. There's the open-carry idiot who thinks he's a cross between Quick Draw McGraw and Dudley DoRight, and then there's the openly sheepish faint at the sound of a fart types who are afraid of anything and everything.

IMHO, Open carry's good for law enforcement and security personnel, not so much for the newspaper or grocery delivery guys, if ya catch my drift.

81 years ago yesterday. May 08, 1945 — Two million people gathered in Times Square to celebrate the end of World War II in Europe. Certainly different times. That will never happen again. And you know that's true.

Gary Trudeau is now 78. Think he's still drawing the strip? As well drawn and (GULP) well-written as it is, I have never liked it because of it's over-the-cliff anti-American leftist leanings. I didn't realize until recently that it's actually classified (by the media) as a political cartoon.
I guess that makes sense when you put it in that perspective. Interesting side note about Trudeau himself. Back in the 80's-90's when I lived on St. John, so did his Mother, and I got to meet him on more than a few ocassions. He was actually a pretty nice guy - easy to talk to, kinda down-to-earth-ish, but his Mom? Nuttier that a friggin' five-year-old fruitcake. Funny, certainly not dangerous, just about 12 cards short of a deck with the Jokers left in.

Another over-the-hill useless piece of Hollywood friggin' garbage is fighting for relevancy with these stupid anti-Trump statements. What the media itself will never fully understand is that they themselves are the only ones who give a fuck what any of these friggin posers think, from Deniro on down the line. STFU and go away should be our new mantra.

"Vanesa from Virginia" is nearly a quarter million dollars richer after scoring a historic money prize on “The Price is Right.” The retired veteran, who appeared on Friday’s Mother’s Day-themed episode, nabbed $240,150 in cash and prizes following several rounds of “The Lion’s Share” - the BetMGM-branded grocery price guessing game - on the CBS daytime show. It’s the largest one-game payout in the 54-year history of “The Price Is Right,” making it a milestone moment for the mainstay game show.

Hopewell, NJ — New Jersey motor vehicle officials have recalled a personalized license plate reading “FDT-8647” after the anti-Trump message circulated widely online and triggered complaints about political rhetoric targeting President Donald Trump.
The plate, which was photographed on a vehicle in Hopewell Township in Mercer County, remained active for roughly a year before the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission moved to revoke it, according to reporting from NJ.com and widespread social media discussion this week.
Complaints started coming into the office after a report earlier this week by Shore News Network and static online through posts on social media as the story grew. Agency officials took notice and recalled the license plate.
The controversy intensified because critics argue the combination carried a vulgar anti-Trump slogan alongside the politically charged “8647” phrase, which some supporters of the president interpret as language advocating harm against the 47th president.

  2. yeah. I understand you about "open carry". seem way too many assholes who should not even have a weapon carry them.
carried one myself for more years than I can count now. kind of funny as the ones you want to see carry never seem too?
but clowns like you said, you can spot a good way off. back in the early 1990's worked in a big city hospital night shift.
paid more, but I took public transport to get there (parking) one night there was a bunch of "youths" in the next car acting the fool and fucking with riders. they came into the car I was in. I pulled my weapon out, check the chamber and magazine. they SAW me do this and left the car. I put my weapon away and smiled at the other riders. they smiled back
a few moved closer to me. at my stop, I smiled and left.

    1. People would have a different opinion if they worked nights, were delivery guys in bad neighborhoods and I always thought truck drivers should be allowed to carry. Ask the victims of black and brown violence about carrying. Oh that's right you can't because they're dead.

  3. I always liked seeing one or two folks in the crowd open carry. I figured if there was a bad guy in the group he'd go for the open carry folks first, giving the concealed carry folks time to draw their weapons and fire.

  10. Always liked Doonesbury back in the 70's. Yeah, it was left wing but it was pretty subtle & well done. I think he started going off when Ronnie got reelected. Bloom County was another I read daily. Still have all the collections of both strips.

  11. Doonesbury ... making up shit about the impact of deporting illegals. Maybe in his ritzy neighborhood, but most of us don't live where all the illegals take all the blue collar jobs. And even if they did, if they leave, there are plenty of legal people willing to fill those rolls.

  12. Doonesbury was funny despite the politics.

Sad but true--some people are gun-phobic (I grew up a bit that way; the first few times friends took me shooting I had the thought flash through my mind that they were taking me somewhere to kill me, but I ignored it and we're still friends)...and then some people give them reasons to be.

Lefties' looks? Newsom would be a good model and should probably have done that instead of politics. I find AOC's limp long hair and buck teeth relatable, but some men say she's hot (right, so that's also relatable). Jasmine Crockett could lose a few pounds but some think she's cute too. Rosa DeLauro's face is unfortunate, eyes set that deep and close together do not normally go with living that long, but I like the defiant dye job. She's not pretty in the conventional way, and she knows it, and she doesn't care. That calls my eye to the fact that apart from whatever happened to her eyes, otherwise she IS a fine-looking *old* woman. Not young and cute. Distinguished.
