This is the seaside town of Positano in Italy. Considered the jewel of southern Italy's Amalfi Coast. You'll know it by its miles of colorful buildings perched on cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean (or the striped umbrellas spanning the shoreline - take your pick). Once a vital part of a mighty sea power, Positano is a sophisticated resort town today, overflowing with old-world charm and impossibly beautiful views - including the famous dome of the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta church.
Despite some steep slopes and stairs, it's a pretty walkable locale, so be sure to set aside time to take in the quaint boutiques, lemon-themed ceramics, and artisan leather goods, then enjoy fresh seafood at one of the town's countless restaurants. Positano is also a great base for exploring the area - you can easily travel by boat to Capri, Ischia, and the Grotta dello Smeraldo cave.
Bring a lot of money, though, because it's pricey as all giddup. Hotel rooms average around $ 600 - $ 1,000 a night, dinners average $ 100+ pp.
