Yeah - that's the Spirit. Sayonara, bitches...

That's the risk hanging over the ultra-low-cost carrier as it searches for a buyer but has yet to secure a deal. The airline has struggled for years to turn a profit amid changing traveler habits and raising costs; reports say the oil crisis triggered by the Iran war could be the nail in the coffin. Basically, at the moment, it's a gamble.
Low cost is relative. If you're not bringing anything with you beyond a toothbrush, and you can handle seats that have been uncomfortable since the day they were made 30 years ago, yeah - it might have been a bargain. So was People's Express. Same business model on a smaller scale, so maybe running a business on paper-thin margins isn't such a great idea.

Airlines come and go. Think PanAm. TWA. Eastern. All gone. Now we wait and see if American and Delta merge and create a beast - and a near-monopoly.
Stay tuned, and remain seated for the rest of the flight...
