In 2025, Seniorly - a resource website for retirees, compiled data on all 50 states, looking at things like cost of living, access to healthcare, and overall recreational opportunities to come up with the best and worst places to retire. After reviewing all of the data, the company named New Jersey as the worst state to retire, calling it “one of the least affordable states in the country.” The report says that the tax rate is 10.75 percent for top earners. And while it’s hard to imagine that retirees can be “top earners” these days, those with substantial retirement savings and investments could qualify.
Not only that, but Seniorly also noted a few other factors at play, stating that overall, the state has poor access to arts and recreation opportunity for seniors who are likely looking to stay active by filling their day with engaging and community driven activities. The report also determined that New Jersey has a very unhealthy senior population, stating that 65 percent of the seniors living in the state have more than three chronic conditions.
In addition to New Jersey, Seniorly also called out several other states in its report, explaining that they also failed to meet some of the metrics that would matter most to seniors. The list of bottom dwellers includes Alabama, Kansas, Georgia and Oklahoma.

The Braves and Angels went from zero to 100 real quick last night. And it wasn’t exactly heavenly in Anaheim. The teams got into a chaotic benches-clearing brawl during Atlanta’s 7-2 win that even saw Angels designated hitter Jorge Soler and Braves starter Reynaldo Lopez throw punches at each other.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Soler took a pitch up-and-in that went to the backstop, which allowed Nolan Schanuel to go from first to second base.
But things only escalated from there. Soler appeared to take exception to the pitch and stared down Lopez as he got a new ball for the next pitch. The starter held out both of his arms, seemingly in disbelief at the reaction. But before long, Soler dropped his bat, charged the mound and the two both threw punches as the dugouts emptied.

Iran’s battered navy has reportedly warned foreign ships on Wednesday that they will be “destroyed” if they attempt to cross the Strait of Hormuz without permission from Tehran.
“You must receive permission from Iranian Sepah navy for passing through the strait. If any vessel tries to transit without permission, will be destroyed,” an Iranian official was heard saying in audio shared with the Wall Street Journal by a crew member.
