Younger workers (Gen Z/Millennials) prioritize 'work-life balance' and mental health, with a shift away from performative work toward efficiency and flexibility. Gen Z is seen as "killing" the old, performative, always-on-call work ethic our parents instilled in us by setting stricter boundaries, focusing on results rather than hours.
According to some analysts, there is an increased prioritization of mental health, meaningful work, and flexibility over job security and salary. The rise of remote work, social media trends like "lazy girl jobs," and a desire to avoid 'burnout' have contributed to this shift.
What I view as a decline in effort, others see as an elimination of unnecessary work - working only to the requirements of the job description. The labor force participation rate has shown a long-term decline from 67.5% at the turn of the century to around 62.3%, indicating a potential lessening of overall workforce commitment.
All this analysis bullshit aside, what it amounts to is there's gonna be less innovators going forward when you have a government that rewards slackers with shit like a $ 20.00 minimum wage for working the cashier window at a drive-thru.
