Do you really need an 'in-store experience', or do you wanna get your shit, pay for it and split...

Walmart is showing self-checkout machines the door at additional supercenters as the retail giant’s automation experiment continues to unravel. The world’s biggest retailer removed the machines from its South Philadelphia store in March, and brought back traditional cashier lanes.
It's only the latest location to ax self-checkout. A Walmart store in Missouri removed all self-checkout machines after the kiosks led to 509 police calls in just five months.
Let me say the obvious. People are scumbags. Give them a chance to steal a can of tomato paste and they will.

Whatever did happen to Arsenio Hall?

That's what self-checkout is - an opportunity to pinch a bag of potato chips - at least to enough people that it's become a huge 'shrinkage' (their word for shoplifting/theft) issue for the company, with no way for them to fully understand how much it's costing them, but they know it's a big number. Given a chance to be an asshole, you'd be amazed how many people will.
Juss' sayin'...

  1. Will they be manning those registers? One of my many complaints with Walmart is that they will have 30 check out lanes but only three cashiers.

  2. People truly are assholes. Civilization is meant to be enjoyed in an environment of rules and morals. No ethics? No civilization. That leaves only the law of the jungle and the strongman. Enjoy your lives, jerks. Freedom isn't free.

  3. wow. in Philly. well, let me tell you something. as a kid, we had 2 good sized supermarkets/ stores in our neighborhood.
really- 1960's in 1967-68. they built the "projects" and life started to change. not for the better . yup. one store, I think it was A&P shut it's doors for good. that left Penn something. they closed all of the doors but ONE. added armed guards
even. but in the end it closed down too. and then there was a MASS effort to reopen it . they did. added guards INSIDE the store. by the 1990's it was losing 4-5 grand per month. I talked with a guy that worked there and he told me when it hits 6 grand per month, they gone ! that was in 1999, May I think. but the store closed for good in June/July.
why else is everything behind plastic ?. simple. people steal anything not locked up.
Philly is home to where carjacking became a thing. same with home invasions. we had those back in the early 1990's.
about carjacking, you have to remember 2 things, one they get "wheels". and TWO. a way to hunt outside of their area.
if you live anywhere near a large city of "youths". expect to be carjacked or worse as this is only going to get worse.
Philly is not the city I grew up in over 60 years ago. just about all of the factories are closed and gone. about the ONLY thing keeping it going is the big schools there. and they keep the real crime "stats" under wraps. if the parents of kids going to those "schools" really knew how bad it is. they never send their kids there. back in the early 1990's the U of Penn had the 4th largest POLICE FORCE IN THE STATE. why ? they needed them. crime was out of control in SW Philly.
after dark ,the area around TEMPLE becomes a war zone. the hospitals connected to these "schools" have armed guards walk the staff to their cars inside a "guarded " parking lot ? I left that shit hole of a city in 2016 and never looked back.
it does piss me off a bit as I remember back when it was a great place to live. and K&A used to be a great shopping area
back in the day. tons of stores and shops selling and making just about anything you might wish for. NOW ? they call it zombie land. I not sure it can sink any lower than it is now. but I wouldn't bet against it.

  5. I, personally, do not use self check outs. I've left stores with no cashiers. What's next? Will they want you to unload the trucks for deliveries? You've never seen a decrease in your bill for checking yourself out.

  6. Now all Walmart needs to do is hire cashiers who don't show up on the short bus shuttle, or hobble to work from the memory care home.

  7. What the hell took Walmart so long? About a month after going all Self-Check we were across from a very, very strange, homo-tranny-cross dresser, whatever, Obama supporter, who tried to shrink a plastic pumpkin fulla makeup. Security came from several directions and the, well, whatever, started screaming like a little bitch about not wanting to go back to jail. Best comment was "okay Barry, if you don't wanna go to jail, how bout we send you back to Kenya?"

  8. I bagged groceries and stocked shelves 45 years ago. Now I get to bag my own purchases without a discount?
Pretty f'd up world. Hire American teenagers, teach them to work. Ban self serve and touch screen ordering.

  9. And hire nice math-oriented kids who APPRECIATE our attention to the bill! Phase out the chatter-cheats!
