Report from London - Women in one US state could face jail time for going braless as officials look to enact a law that would regulate women’s clothing and prohibit drag shows. The proposed law passed the state House in March, and if it were to go into effect, the definition of public indecency would be changed in the state.
Ohio is looking to pass a law that would protect children from explicit content, which could impact drag shows and those who leave the house braless. “This is about shielding the next generation from premature sexualization, from the erosion of their innocence,” State Representative Angie King (R) said of House Bill 249.
Dan Kobil, a professor of constitutional law at Capital University Law School in Columbus, wrote an opinion piece for The Columbus Dispatch, saying drag queens are not the only ones at risk.
“In its puritanical zeal to root out new forms of ‘indecency,’ the act even bans sports bras and other kinds of women’s clothing when worn in ‘physical proximity’ to those who are not members of the woman’s household,” Kobil wrote.
Think about this for a second. Chances are, the very first thing a baby sees when they open their eyes for the first time may well be their mother's breast. Think about that. Think hard...
