Some background on this. I was on an Amtrak train heading down to Ft. Lauderdale in the winter of '74, right afer I got out of the Army. When I got seated I met and hung out with the original Marlboro Man, Bob Norris - the guy from the ads was sitting next to me. He was much older than me but he was friendly and we started bullshittin' pretty much right away. Anyway, I had my guitar with me, and he and I decided we needed cocktails so we both went back to the bar car to hang out.
In those days the bar cars actually had a piano in them, and there already were a coupla guys and gals with guitars and harmonicas and other stuff, and they were all playin' and singin' - it was a lot of fun! We ended up skipping dinner and just hung in the bar all night.
Around midnight, fully juiced and highly motivated, we started playing this song. We played it - this exact song - non-stop for more than an hour and a half.
Every time I hear this song, I think of that night and those people. What a wonderful memory.
AND - I don't think it's related - but maybe it was, but later that summer I was in LA and I ran into Toy and a couple guys from the band at The Whiskey. Long and short? I ended up going on the road with them as a stage hand/roadie for the band for ten weeks. Memories of THAT time are a 'little blurry', if ya catch my drift.
