Paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division’s Immediate Response Force—3,000 Fort Bragg-based soldiers deployable anywhere in the world within 24 hours as the Army’s emergency response unit—are under consideration for operations in Iran, The New York Times reported Tuesday, while thousands of Marines steam toward the region amid swirling questions over a potential ground operation on Kharg Island. No final deployment orders have issued, but senior defense officials confirmed “prudent planning” is underway per a late Monday Times update, spotlighting recent training jumps from C-130J Super Hercules at Sainte-Mère-Église, France on June 8, 2025, and exercises at Fort Bragg on June 10.
President Trump, ordered a large bombing raid earlier this month on Iran’s Kharg Island—a 5-mile landmass handling 90% of the nation’s oil exports, loaded with infrastructure, industry workers, and unknown military numbers he dubbed Iran’s “crown jewel” — has not signaled ground seizure plans, though political and defense circles debate assaults via amphibious landings, paratrooper drops, or combined tactics since U.S. strikes began

Personal note: I served as an MP at Bragg back in the early 70's.
My thoughts on these madmen/heroes? My MOS
shoulda been MCH-01 (Military Cat Herder).
Juss' sayin'...

Sigh. This will not end well.
ReplyDeleteYou cannot truly "win" a war without "boots on the ground". And "boots on the ground" in a country full of fanatical muzzies happy to die so they get "72 virgins" is an amazingly bad idea. War with Iran was always a no win scenario. And NOT destroying their nuclear/terrorist aspirations was a no win scenario. A truly sucky situation. Trump chose to not "kick the can" down the road. History may crucify him for not doing so.
ReplyDeleteEscalation of commitment is a real thing. On top of $ this war will now also cost us sons and daughters.
ReplyDeleteI want Barron and every cabinet member's, senator's, governor's etc son and daughter over 18 enrolled in the army and sent straight to the front. I want them all on the first plane going to Iran!
We are already stuck in Iran. If we leave tomorrow Iran has already said that they will keep the strait of Hormuz shut for as long as they want/charge a toll to go through.
So if we stay, no ships go through. If we leave no ships go through. In any case we are fucked.
Somehow having the strongest military in history, intelligence that others could only dream of and the support of most countries in the Middle East we are in a very shitty position.
Didn't we vote against shit like this in the last election?
ReplyDeleteOnce troops are in the region it will be very hard for Trump not to use them. Every little thing will become a reason to send them in. I feel for all these soldiers and their families
