Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are co-producing their first Broadway play, with their media company Higher Ground partnering on the Broadway revival of Proof, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Auburn. The production will feature Don Cheadle and Ayo Edebiri making their Broadway debuts, along with Jin Ha and Samira Wiley, and is set to run for 16 weeks starting in April, directed by Tony-winner Thomas Kail, who will also produce alongside Mike Bosner and the Obamas.
The Obamas expressed their pride in working on this production, stating, “To bring this landmark play back to Broadway with Ayo, Don, Tommy, and Mike at the helm is an extraordinary privilege, and we couldn’t be more proud to be part of this production.” The play explores themes of genius, mental illness, and love, centering on Catherine’s relationships with her family and the truths about her father’s life. The limited run will begin previews at the Booth Theatre (named for John Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinatedd Lincoln. Go figure) in New York City from March 31, ahead of opening night on April 16.
So, is it just me, or are these Obama people just attention whores?

I think the theatre is named after the brother -- a famous actor -- not the assassin.
ReplyDeleteRemember the plot of the Producers: Raise lots and lots of money by selling shares in the show then watch it flop. The producers keep all the money and the profit shares are worthless. Pure money laundering but facially legal.
ReplyDeleteSo they're gonna do for Broadway what they did for Netflix?
