You only send the B-52 when there is absolutely nothing left that can shoot it down. The B-52 doesn't hide. It doesn't need to. Its very presence over Iranian airspace is the ultimate confirmation of what Admiral Cooper told us - Iran's air defenses have not merely been degraded. They have been effectively eliminated . The skies over Iran now belong to the United States Air Force and the Israeli Air Force - completely, totally, and without contest.
This isn't braggadocio on my part. Not at all. It's just a statement of fact. First the B2's no one can see. Then B1's - faster than the B2 with a bigger payload. Then the B52's when you don't care if they can be seen or not because there is no workable air defense to worry about. That's modern air warfare, plain and simple.

I watched a vid yesterday where the Iranians sent over 300 drones to take out the Abe Lincoln carrier in order to overwhelm its' defenses. Everyone was destroyed in one way or another.

ReplyDeleteI have driven in all parts of FL and find it a hassle. You can go down the fwy at a good clip behind a car and it moves out and some old person is doing 20 miles less in the same lane. I never have driven in FL feeling safe.

Couple of thoughts on that whole Air Supremacy thing:
ReplyDeleteWe had absolute air supremacy (not superiority), over Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021 right? Much less sophisticated enemy and about a 3rd the size of Iran with similar mountains. Seem to recall that ending in an embarrassing withdrawal under pressure.
The B-2 Bomber strike on the nuke facilities last year used up about 1/3 of our alleged stock of our best deep penetration bunker buster bombs. According to President Trump, the Iranian nuclear project was obliterated. We are back again in less than a year. Ask yourself why something that was obliterated last June is suddenly an imminent threat 8 months later. Research the production rate of these bombs for a year.. Since we hit those same targets again this time it is safe to say that either theses bombs do not work as well as we like to think, or the Iranians can go from zero to Hiroshima in 6 months, or we have been lied to in at least 1 of these points. Since we keep using these bombs to hit the same site, it is safe to say they are critically scarce at this point.
There has been no definitive proof that Israel or the USAF has operated over Iran proper with manned aircraft in any extensive manner in this war or in the one last June. The vast majority of what they are doing is firing standoff JASSM air launched missiles from the edge of Iranian airspace. There has been extensive long endurance drone activity over Iran to spot, direct fires, and in some cases bomb directly. Israel lost 3 of those drones over Iran just yesterday. That is not air supremacy. The B-52 cannot add anything to this environment except a break for the other aircraft in maintaining the current tempo of air ops. They will probably be carrying JASSM missiles too, but that just means you will run out sooner
There is considerable evidence provided by the War Department that they have been wasting a significant amount of these expensive JASSM missiles in bombing political targets, police stations, obsolete F14 and F5 aircraft that have been parked for decades, and the bulk of the Iranian surface Navy that has not moved from its mooring in port for years and was also probably unserviceable. The Iranians have also made extensive use of decoys and deception with fake launchers, parked drones, and even helicopters painted on runway tarmacs. The War Department video clearly shows a bomb strike on nothing but painted concrete and they showed it to the press anyway.
If they are claiming air supremacy now it is wishful thinking and likely to result in a steep increase in lost aircraft. Sending in manned aircraft with JDAM and dumb bombs will require them to get much closer to targets and be exposed to whatever the Iranians have been holding back in air defense. Any aircrew bailing out will be deep in enemy territory and beyond reasonable heliborne pararescue range and risk.
I presume this decision was made regardless of the true state of Iranian AD and is simply a desperation move to keep up the bombing pressure in the face of declining JASSM stocks.
