President Trump announced that the CIA informed him that Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, the newly appointed supreme leader of Iran, is gay. During an appearance on Fox News’s The Five yesterday, Trump was questioned by Jesse Watters about this revelation from the CIA, to which he responded, “Well, they did say that, but I don’t know if it was only them. I think a lot of people are saying that,” implying that this information could impact Khamenei’s reputation in Iran.·
Trump's comments come as sexual conduct between individuals of the same sex is illegal in Iran and could result in severe punishment, including death.
Ali Khamenei, the former supreme leader and Mojtaba Khamenei’s father, was killed at the start of Operation Epic Fury. Following this event, Mojtaba's public appearances have been nonexistent, with reports suggesting he may have been injured during the same strike.
Trump remarked, “Nobody heard of the second supreme leader, the son. We have not heard from the son,” raising questions about Mojtaba's current status.
