Hey, Mom- what's for breakfast?

Chances are, it's never struck you as particularly odd that there's an entire supermarket aisle devoted to nothing but cereal. For some of us, cereal is the ultimate convenient breakfast, and even the most sugary of varieties claim to offer nutritional benefits and a balanced start to your day. It's all bullshit.
Every brand is trying to convince you it's something different, something better, and there's probably at least one you're buying into. The "kids only" sugar bombs boast whole grains, and Special K comes studded with chocolate bits and sweet yogurt clusters.
But it wasn't always that way. Cereal's position as America's default breakfast food is a remarkable feat, not of flavor or culture, but of marketing and packaging design. It's a century-long history of advertising, a brilliant campaign that capitalized on the intersection of industrialization, health-consciousness, and changing class attitudes that completely upended the way Americans ate.
Me? I'm a tea and toast kinda guy and I seem to be doing okay for 73+years and going. What do you guys do in the morning? Chime in...

  12. We have eight chickens, so we get four dozen or so eggs a week, and there are only three of us in the house. So I eat a lot of eggs. My favorite breakfast is bacon, eggs fried in bacon grease, and buttered toast. A lot of times, though, I'll just eat a hardboiled egg and toast, and sometimes, just a bowl of farina with a little sugar, butter, and cinnamon. I always follow breakfast with a piece of fruit, a nectarine or peach if I can get it, but usually a big navel orange.

    And coffee. Always coffee.

  13. Keto all day for the most part. 2 eggs, pepperoni or bacon or sausage, cheese, bunch of spices, cheese, baked with olive oil and butter.
Coffee is not my friend, so it's tea with more spices and unsweetened cocoa powder, half-and-half.
    Having it all right now.
    Happy Monday morning all y'all.

  17. Usually, two cups of coffee and two fried eggs with bacon or steak. Sometimes an omelette, if I feel that ambitious. If I'm really hungry and ambitious, I'll add fried mushrooms and tomatoes. On occasion, I'll have breakfast or brunch with my daughter or some friends, sometimes for something as different as dim sum.
